| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Parent Teacher Association are |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | gathering at the State Capitol on February 26, 2009; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This year marks 100 years of service by the group, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | whose members share a common goal to provide the best possible |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | education for Texas youths; to that end, the organization |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | diligently works to promote a positive environment in the home, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | school, and community, secure adequate laws for the care and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | protection of children, and forge a closer relationship between the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | home and school; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The group's more than 630,000 members consist of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | parents, educators, and other concerned citizens from around the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | state who together make up the largest child-advocacy organization |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in Texas; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1909, the Texas PTA is organized into 18 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | geographic areas, 93 councils, and more than 2,600 local campus |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | groups; local PTAs meet, study problems, support teachers, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | attend parenting workshops, and by becoming more informed on issues |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | regarding children and education, members become more effective |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | teachers and parents and more engaged citizens; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the last century, the Texas PTA has |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | worked to improve educational opportunities for all Texas children, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and its efforts have greatly benefited the Lone Star State; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2009, as Texas Parent |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Teacher Association Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in attendance sincere best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
