5	5	WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
6	6	passing of Wendell A. Russell on December 12, 2008, at the age of
7	7	81; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on December 16, 1926, to Melvin and
9	9	Theo Russell, Wendell Russell served Nazarene pastorates in
10	10	Childress, Nocona, Perryton, and Killeen before becoming a chaplain
11	11	at the Austin State Hospital; in 1971, he moved his family to
12	12	Indianapolis and began a long career as a chaplain for the Veterans
13	13	Administration medical centers; this service later brought him back
14	14	to Texas to minister at the centers in Waco and Marlin; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Mr. Russell loved his work and took great pleasure
16	16	in counseling, preaching, and other areas of ministry; he held
17	17	master's degrees in divinity and theology from Nazarene Theological
18	18	Seminary and Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest,
19	19	respectively, and he had the opportunity to visit the Holy Land in
20	20	1995; moreover, he was a member of the American Association of
21	21	Pastoral Counselors and a supervisor in the Association for
22	22	Clinical Pastoral Education; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Wendell Russell enriched the lives of countless
24	24	people with his commitment to his faith and his passion for
25	25	ministry, and memories of his generosity and good humor will
26	26	forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of his loved ones; now,
27	27	therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
29	29	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Chaplain Wendell A.
30	30	Russell and extend deepest sympathies to the members of his family:
31	31	to his wife of 59 years, Mary Russell; to his children, Sheryl
32	32	Knight, Carolyn Morrison, Ruth Wiggam, Steven Russell, and Timothy
33	33	Russell; to his 12 grandchildren; to his 3 great-grandchildren; and
34	34	to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
35	35	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
36	36	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
37	37	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wendell
38	38	Russell.
