44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Albert H. Burns has dedicated much of his life to
66 serving his fellow citizens and making notable contributions in
77 behalf of his beloved hometown; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Tenaha on September 30, 1924, Albert Burns
99 was raised in that East Texas community and graduated from Tenaha
1010 High School in 1942; soon thereafter, he answered his nation's call
1111 to duty, and at the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and
1212 was stationed in such locales as North Africa and Austria during
1313 World War II; on his discharge from the military, he returned to the
1414 Lone Star State and settled in Tenaha; through the years, he worked
1515 as a real estate broker, a businessman in the timber industry, and a
1616 rural mail carrier, and he was the publisher and editor of a weekly
1717 newspaper for Tenaha and the surrounding areas, the East Texas
1818 Light; and
1919 WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Burns has
2020 found the time to distinguish himself through his community
2121 involvement, earning the nickname "Mr. Tenaha"; he has served as
2222 president of the Tenaha Businessmen's Association and of the board
2323 of the Tenaha Independent School District, and he is a deacon at the
2424 First Baptist Church of Tenaha; in addition, he has been affiliated
2525 with the American Legion Post and has held positions in municipal
2626 government; and
2727 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is a steward of the history and
2828 culture of Tenaha, and for his efforts, he has garnered praise from
2929 the Shelby County Historical Society; Mr. Burns was also honored
3030 with the Community Builder Award from the Tenaha Masonic Lodge, the
3131 Man of the Year and 100 Men of East Texas designations, and
3232 induction into the Tenaha Schools Hall of Fame; moreover, in 1996,
3333 he received U.S. Congressional special community recognition; and
3434 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Burns enjoys the love
3535 and support of his family; devoted to his wife, the late Virginia
3636 Burns, throughout a marriage that spanned nearly six decades, he is
3737 the proud father of three children, Linda, Bob, and Barry; he has
3838 also known the joy of welcoming six grandchildren and two
3939 great-grandchildren into the world; and
4040 WHEREAS, A kind and generous man, Albert Burns is an
4141 inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to know him, and he may
4242 indeed reflect with great pride on the positive impact he has had on
4343 his community; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby honor Albert H. Burns for his outstanding civic
4646 engagement and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
4747 happiness; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for Mr. Burns as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5050 House of Representatives.
