5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Albert H. Burns has dedicated much of his life to |
---|
6 | 6 | | serving his fellow citizens and making notable contributions in |
---|
7 | 7 | | behalf of his beloved hometown; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Tenaha on September 30, 1924, Albert Burns |
---|
9 | 9 | | was raised in that East Texas community and graduated from Tenaha |
---|
10 | 10 | | High School in 1942; soon thereafter, he answered his nation's call |
---|
11 | 11 | | to duty, and at the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and |
---|
12 | 12 | | was stationed in such locales as North Africa and Austria during |
---|
13 | 13 | | World War II; on his discharge from the military, he returned to the |
---|
14 | 14 | | Lone Star State and settled in Tenaha; through the years, he worked |
---|
15 | 15 | | as a real estate broker, a businessman in the timber industry, and a |
---|
16 | 16 | | rural mail carrier, and he was the publisher and editor of a weekly |
---|
17 | 17 | | newspaper for Tenaha and the surrounding areas, the East Texas |
---|
18 | 18 | | Light; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Burns has |
---|
20 | 20 | | found the time to distinguish himself through his community |
---|
21 | 21 | | involvement, earning the nickname "Mr. Tenaha"; he has served as |
---|
22 | 22 | | president of the Tenaha Businessmen's Association and of the board |
---|
23 | 23 | | of the Tenaha Independent School District, and he is a deacon at the |
---|
24 | 24 | | First Baptist Church of Tenaha; in addition, he has been affiliated |
---|
25 | 25 | | with the American Legion Post and has held positions in municipal |
---|
26 | 26 | | government; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is a steward of the history and |
---|
28 | 28 | | culture of Tenaha, and for his efforts, he has garnered praise from |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Shelby County Historical Society; Mr. Burns was also honored |
---|
30 | 30 | | with the Community Builder Award from the Tenaha Masonic Lodge, the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Man of the Year and 100 Men of East Texas designations, and |
---|
32 | 32 | | induction into the Tenaha Schools Hall of Fame; moreover, in 1996, |
---|
33 | 33 | | he received U.S. Congressional special community recognition; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Burns enjoys the love |
---|
35 | 35 | | and support of his family; devoted to his wife, the late Virginia |
---|
36 | 36 | | Burns, throughout a marriage that spanned nearly six decades, he is |
---|
37 | 37 | | the proud father of three children, Linda, Bob, and Barry; he has |
---|
38 | 38 | | also known the joy of welcoming six grandchildren and two |
---|
39 | 39 | | great-grandchildren into the world; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, A kind and generous man, Albert Burns is an |
---|
41 | 41 | | inspiration to all who are fortunate enough to know him, and he may |
---|
42 | 42 | | indeed reflect with great pride on the positive impact he has had on |
---|
43 | 43 | | his community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby honor Albert H. Burns for his outstanding civic |
---|
46 | 46 | | engagement and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
47 | 47 | | happiness; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

49 | 49 | | prepared for Mr. Burns as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
