5	5	WHEREAS, The legacy of the late Marion Martin Weaver of
6	6	Center continues to resonate in the community he was proud to call
7	7	home; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born on March 9, 1921, to Marion and Stella Mae
9	9	Weaver, Martin Weaver graduated in 1937 from Center High School and
10	10	went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin; when his father
11	11	died in 1939, he and his brother, Malcolm, assumed the operation of
12	12	the family's lumber company, eventually transforming it into one of
13	13	the most well-known lumberyards in East Texas; together they built
14	14	and financed homes in Shelby, San Augustine, Panola, and Sabine
15	15	Counties, including the Greenwood and Lakewood subdivisions in
16	16	Center; and
17	17	WHEREAS, The brothers were also instrumental in the growth of
18	18	the broiler industry in Shelby County in the late 1940s; Martin
19	19	Weaver designed and built the first broiler house in the area and
20	20	later cooperated with feed companies and farmers to build numerous
21	21	others; in just two decades, the county gained recognition as one of
22	22	the broiler capitals of the Southwest and as the number one
23	23	egg-producing county in the state; and
24	24	WHEREAS, Mr. Weaver further distinguished himself as a World
25	25	War II veteran and as the founder of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in
26	26	Shelby County; moreover, he served on the Center City Council and
27	27	was a member of the Rotary Club and First Christian Church; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Weaver shared more than
29	29	four decades with his wife, Joy, and the couple were the proud
30	30	parents of a daughter, Joy Ann Weaver Havran; Mr. Weaver also
31	31	enjoyed many friendships through the years; he was known for his
32	32	thoughtful and caring nature as well as for living by the messages
33	33	found in two favorite songs, "Give the World a Smile" and "Have a
34	34	Little Faith in Jesus"; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Although Mr. Weaver's death on June 10, 1982,
36	36	brought great sadness to the people of Shelby County, his
37	37	outstanding contributions have not been forgotten, and it is indeed
38	38	fitting to honor the memory of this esteemed Texan; now, therefore,
39	39	be it
40	40	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
41	41	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Marion Martin Weaver;
42	42	and, be it further
43	43	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
44	44	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
45	45	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Martin
46	46	Weaver.
