5	5	WHEREAS, The community of Bellville suffered a profound loss
6	6	with the untimely passing of Harold Roger Luhn on December 19, 2008,
7	7	at the age of 52; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born on June 10, 1956, to Roger and Florence Luhn,
9	9	Harold Luhn was raised in Bellville and graduated from Bellville
10	10	High School; his interest in agriculture inspired him to earn the
11	11	Lone Star FFA degree from the Texas FFA Association in 1973, and he
12	12	went on to receive the American FFA degree, the national
13	13	organization's highest achievement, two years later; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Mr. Luhn made his living as a farmer and rancher, and
15	15	he was active in a variety of agriculture-related activities,
16	16	including the Austin County Fair, an event he had first
17	17	participated in when he was an infant and his parents had carried
18	18	him on horseback in the parade; as an adult, he kept up a family
19	19	tradition started by his father by serving various administrative
20	20	functions for the fair, including a three-year term as president,
21	21	and in 2008, he had the honor of being the parade marshal for the
22	22	81st annual fair parade; in addition, Mr. Luhn was vice chair of the
23	23	Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Go Texan Contest Committee and
24	24	served as director of the Austin County Farm Bureau; respected
25	25	throughout the state for his many contributions, he was named the
26	26	2006 Volunteer of the Year by the Texas Association of Fairs and
27	27	Events; and
28	28	WHEREAS, This notable Texan married the former Rosie Reznicek
29	29	in 1977, and the couple were blessed with two daughters, Laurie and
30	30	Shawna; a devoted husband and father, Mr. Luhn cherished the time he
31	31	spent with his children and adored his two granddaughters; he was
32	32	also an antique tractor enthusiast, and his knowledge of farm
33	33	machinery allowed him to collaborate on the development of an
34	34	innovative hay-baling device; and
35	35	WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Luhn was a parishioner
36	36	at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville and a member of
37	37	the Holy Name Society, and his many civic contributions were
38	38	honored with his selection as Lions Club Citizen of the Year in
39	39	2007; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Harold Luhn brightened the lives of countless people
41	41	during his time on this earth, and though he will be greatly missed,
42	42	memories of his generosity and dedication will forever be cherished
43	43	by those who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore,
44	44	be it
45	45	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
46	46	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Harold Roger Luhn and
47	47	extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
48	48	Rosie Luhn; to his daughters and their spouses, Laurie Haseltine
49	49	and her husband, William, and Shawna Svinky and her husband,
50	50	Michael; to his grandchildren, Mary and Amy Haseltine; to his
51	51	mother, Florence Luhn; to his brother, Fred Luhn, and his wife,
52	52	Sherry; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
53	53	further
54	54	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
55	55	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
56	56	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold
57	57	Roger Luhn.
