5	5	WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marie Walterscheid of Hereford is
6	6	commemorating her 100th birthday on February 24, 2009, and this
7	7	memorable milestone is truly worthy of special recognition; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Born in Lindsay to Lena and Charles Loerwald,
9	9	Elizabeth Marie Loerwald attended the local Catholic school; in her
10	10	hometown, German was the predominant language spoken, but she was
11	11	also fluent in English by the age of five; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Liz Loerwald met Frank Walterscheid at a dance in
13	13	nearby Muenster, and the couple were married on April 10, 1929, at a
14	14	ceremony held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay; the two
15	15	were avid square dancers for many years and shared nearly six
16	16	decades together before Mr. Walterscheid passed away; and
17	17	WHEREAS, In 1943, the couple bought a farm a few miles north
18	18	of Hereford, where they lived with their family until 1961; at that
19	19	time, they moved into a home on Douglas Street in Hereford, where
20	20	Mrs. Walterscheid still resides today; and
21	21	WHEREAS, She is the loving mother of nine children, Vincent,
22	22	Leonard, Kenneth, Larry, Betty, Doris, Jeanette, and the late Alvin
23	23	and Richard; Mrs. Walterscheid delights in spending time with her
24	24	family, which has grown to include 31 grandchildren, 55
25	25	great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and
26	26	WHEREAS, A member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in
27	27	Hereford, she has devoted many hours to the activities of the altar
28	28	society; throughout her life, she has been a respected seamstress,
29	29	working at two sewing factories and creating beautiful quilts on
30	30	her own time that have become very popular items at family reunion
31	31	auctions; Mrs. Walterscheid also takes pleasure in games of cards
32	32	and dominoes; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
34	34	Liz Walterscheid remains a source of joy and inspiration to all who
35	35	have the great privilege of knowing her, and she may reflect with
36	36	pride on a century of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
38	38	Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Marie Walterscheid on
39	39	the occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best
40	40	wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
41	41	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
42	42	prepared for Mrs. Walterscheid as an expression of high regard by
43	43	the Texas House of Representatives.
