| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his exemplary service and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | dedication to public safety, Officer Andrae Smith was named the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 2007 Plano Police Department Officer of the Year; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dallas, Andrae Smith graduated from Garland |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | High School and went on to attend Navarro College and Collin County |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Community College; he worked as a detention officer for the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Carrollton Police Department before joining the Plano department in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 1996; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Officer Smith has served in the Patrol, Traffic, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hit and Run units and has assisted with recruiting and hiring; his |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | responsibilities also include serving as the backup public |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | information officer; through the years, he has received numerous |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | accolades, including a Meritorious Service Award, two Chief's Unit |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | awards, and a Civic Achievement Award for his involvement with the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Special Olympics Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Officer Smith often went above and beyond the call |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of duty in 2007; he made several difficult robbery arrests and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | assisted in a perilous high water rescue after local thunderstorms |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | resulted in widespread flooding; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of law enforcement, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Andrae Smith has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | officers and he may reflect with pride on the role he plays in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | making his community safer; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Andrae Smith on his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | selection as the 2007 Plano Police Department Officer of the Year |

| 31 | 31 | | and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be |
