5	5	WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
6	6	join the residents of Tarrant County and the Coalition of Tarrant
7	7	County Chambers of Commerce in celebrating Tarrant County Day at
8	8	the State Capitol on February 26, 2009; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Tarrant County was created in 1849 and named for
10	10	General Edward H. Tarrant; the third most populous county in Texas,
11	11	it is home to the international headquarters of such corporate
12	12	giants as American Airlines, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Pier 1
13	13	Imports, and RadioShack; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Located in North Central Texas on the Grand Prairie
15	15	and the Blackland Prairie, Tarrant County is a popular area for
16	16	vacationing; the county boasts some of the Lone Star State's most
17	17	outstanding cultural attractions, including the Kimbell Art
18	18	Museum, the Amon G. Carter Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort
19	19	Worth, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and the
20	20	National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame; and
21	21	WHEREAS, The county is home to two of the leading teams in
22	22	professional sports: in Arlington the Texas Rangers are
23	23	headquartered at Rangers Ballpark, a traditional-style baseball
24	24	stadium at the center of a 270-acre entertainment complex, and
25	25	starting in 2009, the Dallas Cowboys, "America's Team," will be
26	26	playing in their new, state-of-the-art, domed stadium; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Nationally famous for such tourism centers as the
28	28	Fort Worth Stockyards and Six Flags Over Texas, Tarrant County is
29	29	often referred to as "Where the West Begins," and the flavor of the
30	30	Old West is still present today in the county's ranchland, museums,
31	31	art, and recreational centers; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also an important national and
33	33	international transportation crossroads located at the geographic
34	34	center of the hemisphere and at the intersection of a number of
35	35	major highway and rail corridors; moreover, it features such
36	36	outstanding air transportation facilities as the Dallas-Fort Worth
37	37	International Airport, Alliance Airport, and Meacham International
38	38	Airport; and
39	39	WHEREAS, The economic stability and diversity of the county
40	40	owe much to the leadership provided by the Coalition of Tarrant
41	41	County Chambers of Commerce, which represents more than 10,000
42	42	business organizations and brings together 25 chambers of commerce
43	43	from throughout Tarrant County; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Noted for its many contributions to the overall
45	45	quality of life in Tarrant County, the coalition supports public
46	46	policy initiatives that meet the needs of employers, employees, and
47	47	all area residents, and it builds productive partnerships between
48	48	the business community and local, state, and federal governments to
49	49	facilitate positive growth in business and workforce development;
50	50	and
51	51	WHEREAS, The residents of Tarrant County, along with the
52	52	members of the area chambers of commerce, deserve credit for
53	53	maintaining the county's vitality and quality of life and for
54	54	preserving its frontier spirit in the face of urban growth and
55	55	industrial development; now, therefore, be it
56	56	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
57	57	Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2009, as Tarrant County
58	58	Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those visiting from
59	59	Tarrant County best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable day.
