 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Allen High School Eagles football team won the
 2008 University Interscholastic League 5A Division 1 state
 championship with a 21-14 victory over previously unbeaten Fort
 Bend Hightower at Reliant Stadium in Houston on December 20, 2008;
 and
 WHEREAS, This memorable triumph brought Allen High its first
 state football title in the school's history, and it capped a
 playoff run in which the squad bested two other undefeated teams,
 Odessa Permian and Euless Trinity; finishing the season with 15
 wins and only 1 defeat, the Eagles thrived under the inspired
 leadership of head coach Tom Westerberg; and
 WHEREAS, Quarterback Tucker Carter threw three touchdown
 passes for the Eagles in the hard-fought championship game, and his
 performance earned him the offensive MVP honor; Allen's stout
 defense also contributed several key plays to the victory,
 including a second-quarter goal-line stand that stopped Hightower
 at the Eagles' one-yard line and a fourth-quarter interception by
 linebacker Mitch Hartshorne; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the culmination of
 countless hours of hard work and dedication, and these talented
 student-athletes may take justifiable pride in their exceptional
 achievement; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Allen High School Eagles on
 winning the 2008 UIL 5A Division 1 state football championship and
 extend sincere best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
