| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Frances Elizabeth Norton Elementary School in Allen |

| 6 | 6 | | was named a 2007 No Child Left Behind--Blue Ribbon School, the |

| 7 | 7 | | highest national designation a school can receive; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The NCLB--Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created by |

| 9 | 9 | | the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 and redesigned in 2002 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | under the No Child Left Behind Act; to qualify for nomination, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | schools must demonstrate academic superiority within their state or |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | show dramatic gains in student achievement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, One of only 24 schools in the state and 287 schools |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | nationwide to receive this prestigious award, Norton Elementary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | enrolls some 675 students in grades kindergarten through sixth; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | skillfully led by Principal Sandra Cheek, it is rated as exemplary |

| 17 | 17 | | by the Texas Education Agency and has been named to the Texas |

| 18 | 18 | | Business Education Coalition Honor Roll five times; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Through commitment, hard work, and perseverance, |

| 20 | 20 | | the teachers and students of Norton Elementary have accomplished |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | great things together, and their outstanding achievements were duly |

| 22 | 22 | | recognized with this Blue Ribbon School designation; now, |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby honor Frances Elizabeth Norton Elementary |
