44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Elsie Huang is retiring as president of the Asian
66 Chamber of Commerce in Houston in 2009, drawing to a close more than
77 five years of service to that organization; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Tucson, Arizona, Ms. Huang earned her
99 bachelor's and master's degrees in Texas from the University of
1010 Houston; she then went on to a successful 26-year career in
1111 education, working as a teacher and principal with the Katy
1212 Independent School District; and
1313 WHEREAS, In 2003, Ms. Huang was named president of the Asian
1414 Chamber of Commerce, and over the course of her tenure, she led the
1515 chamber in increasing the size, scope, and variety of its
1616 activities; and
1717 WHEREAS, During her time as president, the chamber grew from
1818 65 active members to more than 900, and she helped launch such
1919 exciting programs as the Asian Epicurean Evening, mini expos, and
2020 networking breakfasts, as well as collaborative efforts with area
2121 Rotary Clubs and other chambers of commerce; in addition, she
2222 played an instrumental role in the growth of the Asian Chamber of
2323 Commerce Gala and other chamber events; and
2424 WHEREAS, Under Ms. Huang's leadership, the organization's
2525 offices moved in 2007 to a handsome new facility that affords space
2626 for a number of educational programs, as well as a meeting room; and
2727 WHEREAS, Elsie Huang's dedication, professionalism, and
2828 commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the Asian Chamber
2929 of Commerce and the Houston business community, and she may indeed
3030 reflect with pride on the fine job she has done as she embarks on the
3131 next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3333 Legislature hereby congratulate Elsie Huang on the occasion of her
3434 retirement as president of the Houston Asian Chamber of Commerce
3535 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
3636 happiness; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Ms. Huang as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3939 House of Representatives.
