5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Elsie Huang is retiring as president of the Asian |

6 | 6 | | Chamber of Commerce in Houston in 2009, drawing to a close more than |
---|
7 | 7 | | five years of service to that organization; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Tucson, Arizona, Ms. Huang earned her |
---|
9 | 9 | | bachelor's and master's degrees in Texas from the University of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Houston; she then went on to a successful 26-year career in |
---|
11 | 11 | | education, working as a teacher and principal with the Katy |
---|
12 | 12 | | Independent School District; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Ms. Huang was named president of the Asian |
---|
14 | 14 | | Chamber of Commerce, and over the course of her tenure, she led the |
---|
15 | 15 | | chamber in increasing the size, scope, and variety of its |
---|
16 | 16 | | activities; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, During her time as president, the chamber grew from |
---|
18 | 18 | | 65 active members to more than 900, and she helped launch such |
---|
19 | 19 | | exciting programs as the Asian Epicurean Evening, mini expos, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | networking breakfasts, as well as collaborative efforts with area |
---|
21 | 21 | | Rotary Clubs and other chambers of commerce; in addition, she |
---|
22 | 22 | | played an instrumental role in the growth of the Asian Chamber of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Commerce Gala and other chamber events; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Under Ms. Huang's leadership, the organization's |
---|
25 | 25 | | offices moved in 2007 to a handsome new facility that affords space |
---|
26 | 26 | | for a number of educational programs, as well as a meeting room; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Elsie Huang's dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the Asian Chamber |
---|
29 | 29 | | of Commerce and the Houston business community, and she may indeed |
---|
30 | 30 | | reflect with pride on the fine job she has done as she embarks on the |
---|
31 | 31 | | next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Elsie Huang on the occasion of her |
---|
34 | 34 | | retirement as president of the Houston Asian Chamber of Commerce |
---|
35 | 35 | | and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and |
