44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Representatives from the Cleburne Chamber of
66 Commerce and the Cleburne Tuesday Forum are visiting the State
77 Capitol on March 3, 2009, and this occasion provides a fitting
88 opportunity to pay tribute to the rich history of this Johnson
99 County community; and
1010 WHEREAS, The county seat, Cleburne was incorporated in 1871
1111 and named in honor of Confederate general Patrick R. Cleburne;
1212 built near the earliest Johnson County road, it grew steadily as a
1313 crossroads and transportation center; in 1881, the Gulf, Colorado,
1414 and Santa Fe Railway was completed, stretching from Fort Worth
1515 through Cleburne to Temple, and by 1890, the town's population had
1616 risen to nearly 3,800; and
1717 WHEREAS, In 1919, 84 charter members established the Cleburne
1818 Chamber of Commerce with the goal of increasing local business;
1919 around the time of its inception, the chamber was serving a
2020 population of more than 12,000, and one of its first priorities was
2121 to give the citizens better roads; after helping build U.S. Highway
2222 67, the organization worked to develop State Highway 122, which led
2323 from Cleburne to Weatherford, and it also focused on promoting such
2424 vital industries as agriculture; today, the chamber continues to
2525 serve as a focal point for business and community development and is
2626 commemorating the 90th anniversary of its founding in 2009; and
2727 WHEREAS, By the late 1960s, another group of dedicated
2828 residents had emerged to address the concerns of the community;
2929 created by local Rotarians as a platform for discussing current
3030 issues, the Cleburne Tuesday Forum is made up of the top 100
3131 business leaders in Johnson County, who come together for monthly
3232 luncheons; working alongside one another, the Cleburne Tuesday
3333 Forum and Chamber of Commerce serve an area that today includes 40
3434 manufacturing facilities, a regional hospital, a community college
3535 extension center, and a population of nearly 30,000; the city also
3636 features Cleburne State Park, Lake Pat Cleburne, and Carnegie
3737 Library, which houses the Layland Museum and a community theater
3838 group; and
3939 WHEREAS, The citizens of Cleburne are working to preserve the
4040 best of their past even as they look forward to a bright and
4141 promising future, and they may indeed reflect with great pride on
4242 the place they call home; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4444 Legislature hereby honor the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce and the
4545 Cleburne Tuesday Forum for their civic contributions and extend a
4646 warm welcome to the delegates who are present in the State Capitol
4747 today; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
4949 for the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce and the Cleburne Tuesday Forum
5050 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
5151 Representatives.
