| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mayor John David Franz of Hidalgo has been justly |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | honored for his dedication to the prosperity of his community with |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | his selection as Border Texan of the Year for 2009 by the Hidalgo |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Chamber of Commerce; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in McAllen, John Franz attended school in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Hidalgo before graduating from McAllen High School at the age of 16; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | he was appointed to a judgeship on the Hidalgo Municipal Court at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | age 18, and he began his tenure as mayor in 1990; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Franz has worked tirelessly to improve the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | quality of life for the citizens of Hidalgo during his time in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | office and has furthered that goal by taking a leadership role in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | numerous civic organizations; he is president of the City of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Hidalgo Texas Municipal Facilities Corporation and has served as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | director of the Hidalgo Economic Development Corporation since his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | first year as mayor; moreover, he is a member of the boards of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | directors for both the Anzalduas and the McAllen-Hidalgo-Reynosa |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | International Bridges and has contributed to numerous committees of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | economic and social significance to the region; his attention to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | statewide issues has included a six-year term on the Texas Board of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Criminal Justice; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, John Franz has proven |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | himself an assured leader who has helped guide his city through an |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | era of tremendous growth and change, and his efforts have had an |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | enduring and positive impact on South Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mayor John David Franz on his |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | selection as 2009 Border Texan of the Year and extend to him sincere |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
