44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Citizens of Travis County lost an admired community
66 activist with the death of Green Party co-chair William Judson
77 Holloway III on January 8, 2009, at the age of 44; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma City on July 31, 1964, Bill
99 Holloway was the only son of Judge William Judson Holloway, Jr., and
1010 Helen Hoehn Holloway; he developed a love of the outdoors during
1111 family vacations in the Rocky Mountains and as a camper and
1212 counselor at Cheley Colorado Camps, and he earned his Eagle Scout
1313 badge in 1980; a gifted student as well, he graduated cum laude from
1414 Casady School and went on to attend Bucknell University, where he
1515 was awarded the W. Norwood Lowry Prize for his achievements in
1616 physics; he subsequently earned a master of science degree in
1717 nonlinear physics from The University of Texas at Austin and
1818 pursued studies in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Holloway began his career at National
2020 Instruments and later founded his own Internet consulting firm, but
2121 he is perhaps best remembered for his generous volunteer efforts in
2222 behalf of numerous organizations; he served as Texas director of
2323 the Northern Flyer Alliance, which is dedicated to the
2424 reintroduction of passenger rail, and he was involved in the Green
2525 Party at the local, state, and national levels, serving as co-chair
2626 of the Travis County group; moreover, he was active in the ACLU of
2727 Texas Central Texas Chapter, and he served as a counselor for a rape
2828 crisis hotline; and
2929 WHEREAS, Known for his heartfelt dedication to the causes he
3030 believed in, Bill Holloway strived to make a positive difference in
3131 the world around him, and his myriad contributions will continue to
3232 resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Judson
3535 Holloway III and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3636 family: to his parents, the Honorable William Judson Holloway, Jr.,
3737 and Helen Hoehn Holloway; to his sister, Gentry Holloway and her
3838 partner, Martha Whiteaker; to his nephews, Jack and Josh
3939 Whiteaker-Holloway; and to his other relatives and many friends;
4040 and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill
4444 Holloway.
