44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Panola College nursing programs have enhanced the
66 lives of countless northeast Texans by providing exceptional
77 nursing education for thousands of students; and
88 WHEREAS, Located in Carthage, Panola College established its
99 Licensed Vocational Nursing Program in 1972 and its Associate
1010 Degree Nursing Program in 1994; through the years, more than 2,000
1111 people have graduated with nursing degrees; and
1212 WHEREAS, The outstanding curriculum and instruction provided
1313 by the institution is evidenced by a 90 percent first-time
1414 licensing exam passing rate for graduates of the Associate Degree
1515 Nursing Program; in addition, both programs have earned
1616 accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting
1717 Commission; and
1818 WHEREAS, Progressive and future-oriented, Panola College
1919 anticipates student needs, and it is only the second school in Texas
2020 to offer a complete RN program online; and
2121 WHEREAS, The college emphasizes the humanitarian aspect of
2222 nursing as well as academic requirements; students have provided
2323 health screening and primary health care provider referral services
2424 to approximately 1,200 people at annual Panola County health fairs
2525 and participated in trips to Belize, bringing basic health services
2626 to that country's most remote villages; and
2727 WHEREAS, To better serve students, Panola College has used
2828 grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for
2929 innovation in nursing education to increase both graduation rates
3030 and opportunities for experiential learning, and it operates a new
3131 simulation lab in conjunction with East Texas Medical Center
3232 Carthage; and
3333 WHEREAS, Committed to excellence, the Panola College nursing
3434 programs are truly worthy of recognition for their academic
3535 excellence, innovation in education, and generous service to the
3636 community; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3838 Legislature hereby honor the Panola College nursing programs and
3939 extend to the faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for
4040 the future; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4343 House of Representatives.
