5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Panola College nursing programs have enhanced the |

6 | 6 | | lives of countless northeast Texans by providing exceptional |
---|
7 | 7 | | nursing education for thousands of students; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located in Carthage, Panola College established its |
---|
9 | 9 | | Licensed Vocational Nursing Program in 1972 and its Associate |
---|
10 | 10 | | Degree Nursing Program in 1994; through the years, more than 2,000 |
---|
11 | 11 | | people have graduated with nursing degrees; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The outstanding curriculum and instruction provided |
---|
13 | 13 | | by the institution is evidenced by a 90 percent first-time |
---|
14 | 14 | | licensing exam passing rate for graduates of the Associate Degree |
---|
15 | 15 | | Nursing Program; in addition, both programs have earned |
---|
16 | 16 | | accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting |
---|
17 | 17 | | Commission; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Progressive and future-oriented, Panola College |
---|
19 | 19 | | anticipates student needs, and it is only the second school in Texas |
---|
20 | 20 | | to offer a complete RN program online; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The college emphasizes the humanitarian aspect of |
---|
22 | 22 | | nursing as well as academic requirements; students have provided |
---|
23 | 23 | | health screening and primary health care provider referral services |
---|
24 | 24 | | to approximately 1,200 people at annual Panola County health fairs |
---|
25 | 25 | | and participated in trips to Belize, bringing basic health services |
---|
26 | 26 | | to that country's most remote villages; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, To better serve students, Panola College has used |
---|
28 | 28 | | grants from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for |
---|
29 | 29 | | innovation in nursing education to increase both graduation rates |
---|
30 | 30 | | and opportunities for experiential learning, and it operates a new |
---|
31 | 31 | | simulation lab in conjunction with East Texas Medical Center |
---|
32 | 32 | | Carthage; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Committed to excellence, the Panola College nursing |
---|
34 | 34 | | programs are truly worthy of recognition for their academic |
---|
35 | 35 | | excellence, innovation in education, and generous service to the |
---|
36 | 36 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor the Panola College nursing programs and |
---|
39 | 39 | | extend to the faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for |
---|
40 | 40 | | the future; and, be it further |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
