 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
 passing of the Honorable August Caron, Jr., longtime mayor of
 George West, on March 30, 2008, at the age of 80; and
 WHEREAS, The eldest son of August Caron, Sr., and the former
 Reba Lee Salmon, August Caron, Jr., was born in George West on
 August 21, 1927, and raised on the family ranch in McMullen County;
 he attended schools in the George West school system and answered
 his nation's call to duty after graduation with service to the
 U.S. Army Security Agency as a code breaker during World War II; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Caron studied civil engineering at Texas A&I
 University in Kingsville after the war and began work with the Texas
 Highway Department in the early 1950s; he oversaw construction of
 countless roadways, including the Live Oak County leg of Interstate
 Highway 37, during his 38-year tenure with the department; after
 his retirement, he worked for several years at Harris Engineering
 of Beeville as a survey and design technician before retiring again
 to devote more of his time to his family and to public service; and
 WHEREAS, A man of diverse talents, Mr. Caron began his career
 in local government in 1982 as a member of the George West City
 Council; he was first elected mayor in 1987, and he continued to
 serve admirably in that office until his death; this dedicated
 elected official expanded water service in George West and worked
 diligently to bring quality emergency medical care to the city and
 surrounding area, in addition to many other accomplishments; and
 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Caron enjoyed the love
 and support of his wife, the former Gretchen Schmidt, who preceded
 him in death; Mr. Caron took great joy in his two children,
 Christopher and Suzette, and three grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler,
 and Ryan; and
 WHEREAS, Mayor August Caron left behind a record of
 outstanding service to his nation, his family, and his community,
 and he will be forever remembered with deep affection by countless
 individuals whose lives were enriched by his actions; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of August Caron, Jr.,
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 children, Suzette Bellows and her husband, Roger, and Christopher
 Caron; to his grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, and Ryan Bellows; to
 his brother, Hershall Caron; to his sister, Helen Probst; and to his
 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mayor
 August Caron, Jr.
