44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Paul Darden of Sundown High School has been selected
66 by the National Federation of High School Coaches Association as
77 the 2008 National High School Cross Country Coach of the Year; and
88 WHEREAS, A graduate of Midland High School, Mr. Darden has
99 served as cross country coach at Sundown High for 17 years; he
1010 coaches both the boys' and girls' teams, and the two have combined
1111 for a total of six Class 1A state championships since 2005; and
1212 WHEREAS, Coach Darden led both of his teams to the state title
1313 in 2008, marking the second time during his tenure that Sundown has
1414 swept both the boys' and girls' 1A championships; he was nominated
1515 for the coach of the year award by the University Interscholastic
1616 League, and his outstanding record of accomplishments on and off
1717 the field allowed him to advance through the selection process to
1818 ultimately receive the honor from the federation's advisory board;
1919 and
2020 WHEREAS, Exceptional coaches inspire athletes to perform at
2121 the peak of their abilities, and Paul Darden's commitment to
2222 excellence indeed makes him a most deserving recipient of this
2323 prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2525 Legislature hereby congratulate Paul Darden on his selection as
2626 National High School Cross Country Coach of the Year by the National
2727 Federation of High School Coaches Association and extend to him
2828 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for Coach Darden as an expression of high regard by the
3131 Texas House of Representatives.
