| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Darden of Sundown High School has been selected |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | by the National Federation of High School Coaches Association as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the 2008 National High School Cross Country Coach of the Year; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Midland High School, Mr. Darden has |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | served as cross country coach at Sundown High for 17 years; he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | coaches both the boys' and girls' teams, and the two have combined |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for a total of six Class 1A state championships since 2005; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Coach Darden led both of his teams to the state title |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in 2008, marking the second time during his tenure that Sundown has |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | swept both the boys' and girls' 1A championships; he was nominated |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the coach of the year award by the University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | League, and his outstanding record of accomplishments on and off |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the field allowed him to advance through the selection process to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | ultimately receive the honor from the federation's advisory board; |
|---|

| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Exceptional coaches inspire athletes to perform at |

| 21 | 21 | | the peak of their abilities, and Paul Darden's commitment to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | excellence indeed makes him a most deserving recipient of this |

| 23 | 23 | | prestigious award; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Paul Darden on his selection as |
