H.R. No. 706
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the Big Country Support the Troops
organization are visiting the State Capitol on March 5, 2009; and
WHEREAS, This notable group was established in 2006 by
Abilene residents dedicated to supporting the military and the
families of those who serve this country; to that end, participants
assemble care packages, raise money for college scholarships, and
provide recreational opportunities that benefit troops and their
loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Aligned with several area nonprofits, Big Country
Support the Troops emphasizes aid to severely wounded service
members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan; in addition, the group
hosts an annual rally in an effort to bring the community together
in support of its worthwhile mission; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating to our men and women in uniform the
gratitude felt by all Americans for their service and sacrifice is a
most worthwhile endeavor, and Big Country Support the Troops truly
merits special recognition for its many good works; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2009, as Big Country Support
the Troops Legislative Day and extend to all those associated with
the group sincere best wishes for continued success with their
important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
