| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Victor Rocha, Engineer Clark Gridley, |

| 6 | 6 | | and Fire Rescue Officer Fred Fite of the Del Rio Fire and Rescue |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Department have each been presented with the department's Medal of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Honor for saving the life of an elderly man; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On June 27, 2008, these three highly trained members |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of Engine 3 company answered an emergency medical call and found an |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | elderly gentleman who showed no vital signs; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Acting quickly, Lieutenant Rocha and Engineer |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Gridley began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | while Officer Fite readied an automated external defibrillator; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | they administered a shock and revived the patient; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, While the man was being transported to a waiting |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ambulance, a second shock was administered, and the patient arrived |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | at the hospital breathing with assistance; thanks to the skillful |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | efforts of the three firefighters, he survived and was subsequently |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | released and reunited with his family; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas owe their first responders an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | enormous debt of gratitude for the lifesaving deeds they perform |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | every day, and the swift and sure action taken by Lieutenant Rocha, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Engineer Gridley, and Fire Rescue Officer Fite is truly deserving |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of recognition and acclaim; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Victor Rocha, Clark Gridley, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Fred Fite of the Del Rio Fire and Rescue Department on their receipt |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of the department's Medal of Honor and extend to them sincere best |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wishes for continued success with their vital work; and, be it |
