5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Martin's retirement from the East Texas |

6 | 6 | | Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse provides a fitting opportunity |

7 | 7 | | to recognize her dedicated service; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Martin joined the East Texas Council on |
---|
9 | 9 | | Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2004, and throughout her tenure, she |
---|
10 | 10 | | has demonstrated outstanding professionalism and leadership; as |
---|
11 | 11 | | drug-free community program manager, she supervised a federal grant |
---|
12 | 12 | | that aimed to reduce substance abuse among area youth and supported |
---|
13 | 13 | | the Kilgore Together coalition, which is made up of volunteers from |
---|
14 | 14 | | law enforcement, schools, businesses, religious institutions, and |
---|
15 | 15 | | government; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Before her employment with that agency, Ms. Martin |
---|
17 | 17 | | had a notable career as an educator that spanned nearly four |
---|
18 | 18 | | decades; after teaching in Arkansas schools for 10 years, she |
---|
19 | 19 | | relocated to Kilgore, where she was a member of the faculty at Maude |
---|
20 | 20 | | Laird Middle School and Kilgore Heights Elementary School; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Ms. Martin has been active in a |
---|
22 | 22 | | number of professional organizations, holding prominent roles with |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Kilgore Classroom Teacher Association, the Beta Mu Chapter of |
---|
24 | 24 | | Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Texas Alliance for Geographic Education |
---|
25 | 25 | | state conference; moreover, she has distinguished herself by |
---|
26 | 26 | | attending the National Geographic Teacher Mentorship Training in |
---|
27 | 27 | | Washington, D.C., writing an article published in Tempo, the |
---|
28 | 28 | | publication of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented, |
---|
29 | 29 | | and co-authoring the Environmental Protection Agency publication, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Using Geography to Teach Environmental Education; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Martin is also an active member of First |
---|
32 | 32 | | Presbyterian Church, where she has served her fellow congregants as |
---|
33 | 33 | | an elder, Sunday school teacher, and committee moderator; she has |
---|
34 | 34 | | also shared her time with the Saturday Bread Team and the Just For |
---|
35 | 35 | | Kids Program; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Carolyn Martin's commitment to improving the lives |
---|
37 | 37 | | of her fellow citizens in East Texas has earned her the lasting |
---|
38 | 38 | | respect and admiration of countless individuals, and she may indeed |
---|
39 | 39 | | take pride in her record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby honor Carolyn Martin on her retirement from the |
---|
42 | 42 | | East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and extend to her |
---|
43 | 43 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
