44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Carolyn Martin's retirement from the East Texas
66 Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse provides a fitting opportunity
77 to recognize her dedicated service; and
88 WHEREAS, Ms. Martin joined the East Texas Council on
99 Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2004, and throughout her tenure, she
1010 has demonstrated outstanding professionalism and leadership; as
1111 drug-free community program manager, she supervised a federal grant
1212 that aimed to reduce substance abuse among area youth and supported
1313 the Kilgore Together coalition, which is made up of volunteers from
1414 law enforcement, schools, businesses, religious institutions, and
1515 government; and
1616 WHEREAS, Before her employment with that agency, Ms. Martin
1717 had a notable career as an educator that spanned nearly four
1818 decades; after teaching in Arkansas schools for 10 years, she
1919 relocated to Kilgore, where she was a member of the faculty at Maude
2020 Laird Middle School and Kilgore Heights Elementary School; and
2121 WHEREAS, Through the years, Ms. Martin has been active in a
2222 number of professional organizations, holding prominent roles with
2323 the Kilgore Classroom Teacher Association, the Beta Mu Chapter of
2424 Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Texas Alliance for Geographic Education
2525 state conference; moreover, she has distinguished herself by
2626 attending the National Geographic Teacher Mentorship Training in
2727 Washington, D.C., writing an article published in Tempo, the
2828 publication of the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented,
2929 and co-authoring the Environmental Protection Agency publication,
3030 Using Geography to Teach Environmental Education; and
3131 WHEREAS, Ms. Martin is also an active member of First
3232 Presbyterian Church, where she has served her fellow congregants as
3333 an elder, Sunday school teacher, and committee moderator; she has
3434 also shared her time with the Saturday Bread Team and the Just For
3535 Kids Program; and
3636 WHEREAS, Carolyn Martin's commitment to improving the lives
3737 of her fellow citizens in East Texas has earned her the lasting
3838 respect and admiration of countless individuals, and she may indeed
3939 take pride in her record of achievement; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4141 Legislature hereby honor Carolyn Martin on her retirement from the
4242 East Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and extend to her
4343 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for Ms. Martin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4646 House of Representatives.
