H.R. No. 740 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Waverly Park Elementary School in Fort Worth was named a 2008 Just for the Kids--Higher Performing School by the National Center for Educational Achievement; and WHEREAS, Established in 1995 by the NCEA, Just for the Kids is a program designed to find and fulfill every school's potential for reaching academic excellence and to ensure that all students are prepared for college and careers; JFTK identifies Higher Performing Schools that meet stringent criteria over multiple years and across all subjects; the best practices of these institutions are measured to determine a framework for improvement in other schools, and the Higher Performing Schools serve as models for raising scholastic standards nationwide; and WHEREAS, Celebrating its 50th year of operation in 2009, Waverly Park Elementary seeks to promote academic excellence and to provide a nurturing environment for its 850 students that fosters creativity and a lifetime love of learning; skillfully led by principal Mary J. Marshall, this noteworthy school has further distinguished itself with its receipt of an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and WHEREAS, Through commitment, hard work, and perseverance, the teachers and students of Waverly Park Elementary School have built an impressive record of academic achievement, and their outstanding efforts were duly recognized with this Higher Performing School designation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Waverly Park Elementary School on its selection as a 2008 Just for the Kids--Higher Performing School and extend to its teachers, students, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
