| 6 | 6 | | on March 11, 2009, to celebrate Kingsville Day at the State Capitol; |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded on Independence Day 1905, Kingsville is home |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to the world-famous King Ranch, which helped develop the Santa |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Gertrudis cattle breed and has long been a prominent supplier of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | quarter horses; moreover, the ranch was the home of Triple Crown |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | winner Assault and has been a leader in agriculture for more than |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 150 years; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, An important regional center for education, the city |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | is the site of Texas A&M University--Kingsville, which includes the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering, the Dick and Mary |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Research Institute, and the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | among its many achievements, the university has claimed seven |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | college football national championships and developed the Star Ruby |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | variety of red grapefruit, and it has been the flagship of higher |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | education in South Texas since 1925; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Naval Air Station Kingsville is home to the premier |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | undergraduate pilot training facility in the United States, which |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | prepares U.S. Navy and Marine Corps pilots for their key role in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | national defense; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Kingsville has volunteered its sons and daughters to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | take part in every major military conflict fought by the U.S. in the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | past 100 years; the city's roll call of esteemed veterans includes |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | General Dickie Cavazos, the first four-star general of Mexican |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | American descent in the United States Army; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Today, this notable South Texas city, along with the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | rest of Kleberg County and neighboring Kenedy County, is a place of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | diversified industries; supported by multiple energy sources, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | including oil, gas, nuclear, wind, and solar generating facilities, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | the economy of the Kingsville area has continued to grow; this has |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | resulted in new jobs, increased construction, and an improved |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | quality of life for its citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 11, 2009, as Kingsville Day at |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | the State Capitol and commend area residents for the countless |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | contributions they have made to the development of the region, |
|---|
