| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 62nd Southwest Regional Conference of Iota Phi |

| 6 | 6 | | Lambda Sorority is taking place in Houston on March 12-16, 2009; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1929 by Lola M. Parker, Iota Phi Lambda is |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a national business and professional sorority with more than 100 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | chapters located throughout 85 U.S. cities and the Virgin Islands; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Members work to enhance and improve the status of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | women in business, as well as to promote increased interest in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | business education among young women through programs and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | scholarships; moreover, the group provides educational, civic, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | social service opportunities for people of all ages; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the sorority sponsors a variety of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | events, including Business Month, Black History Month, American |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Education Week, and the Future Iota Leaders program, which offers |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | educational and cultural opportunities to young people; included |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | among its many national projects are Career Exploration, Iota |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Mothers Career Assistance Program, and the teen pregnancy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | prevention program, Toys "U" Can't Return; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Together, the members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority |

| 24 | 24 | | have helped to better the lives of countless Texans, and in so |

| 25 | 25 | | doing, they have set a sterling example of leadership and community |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | service to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 62nd Southwest Regional |

| 29 | 29 | | Conference of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and extend to all those |

| 30 | 30 | | involved sincere best wishes for a meaningful and productive event. |
