55 WHEREAS, The 62nd Southwest Regional Conference of Iota Phi
66 Lambda Sorority is taking place in Houston on March 12-16, 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, Founded in 1929 by Lola M. Parker, Iota Phi Lambda is
88 a national business and professional sorority with more than 100
99 chapters located throughout 85 U.S. cities and the Virgin Islands;

1111 WHEREAS, Members work to enhance and improve the status of
1212 women in business, as well as to promote increased interest in
1313 business education among young women through programs and
1414 scholarships; moreover, the group provides educational, civic, and
1515 social service opportunities for people of all ages; and
1616 WHEREAS, Each year, the sorority sponsors a variety of
1717 events, including Business Month, Black History Month, American
1818 Education Week, and the Future Iota Leaders program, which offers
1919 educational and cultural opportunities to young people; included
2020 among its many national projects are Career Exploration, Iota
2121 Mothers Career Assistance Program, and the teen pregnancy
2222 prevention program, Toys "U" Can't Return; and
2323 WHEREAS, Together, the members of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority
2424 have helped to better the lives of countless Texans, and in so
2525 doing, they have set a sterling example of leadership and community
2626 service to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2828 Legislature hereby commemorate the 62nd Southwest Regional
2929 Conference of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority and extend to all those
3030 involved sincere best wishes for a meaningful and productive event.
