| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce |

| 6 | 6 | | are visiting the State Capitol on March 12, 2009, and this occasion |

| 7 | 7 | | is a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to this fine organization |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and the Galveston Bay community that it represents; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Located in southeastern Harris County, the La |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Porte-Bayshore area combines a rich Texas heritage with the natural |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | appeal of Sylvan Beach Park and is known as the gateway to Galveston |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Bay; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce leads the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | way in actively supporting the area's businesses, promoting |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | tourism, developing a coordinated strategy for economic |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | development, and keeping chamber members informed on legislative |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and government actions that impact the community; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The chamber sponsors the popular Sylvan Beach |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Festival and Crawfish Jam each year, which features a carnival, a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | parade, a pageant, a cook-off, and live entertainment; the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | organization also oversees the annual Salute to Industry event, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Partners in Education program, and the Leadership La Porte training |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | program for the next generation of community leaders; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Despite the recent challenges of Hurricane Ike, the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce continues to foster |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | development and growth, working hard to ensure a bright future for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | this unique Texas community and its residents; now, therefore, be |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commend the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of |
