| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In a distinguished law enforcement career that has |

| 6 | 6 | | spanned four decades, Tommy W. Williams has provided exemplary |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | service as the sheriff of Atascosa County; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, First elected in 1972, Sheriff Williams has been |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | returned to office nine times since; when his present and final term |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ends in 2012, he will be the fourth-longest-serving sheriff in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas history, and he is already the Lone Star State's most |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | experienced active-duty sheriff; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, This respected public servant hails from a family |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | that arrived in Atascosa County in 1827 and that has a long history |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of law enforcement leadership in the area; his great-grandfather |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | served as sheriff during the Civil War and a great-uncle held the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | office in the 1880s; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During the years Tommy Williams has worn the badge, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | he has guided the department through a period of immense change, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | with the county population more than doubling and the number of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | sheriff's department employees growing from five to over 75; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | despite the added complexity of his job, he has maintained his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | common-sense approach to law enforcement as well as his personal |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | connection to the people he serves; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A familiar presence throughout the county, Sheriff |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Williams knows countless residents by name and has built a |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | reputation for being tough but fair in his dealings with suspected |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | lawbreakers; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, he enjoys the love and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | support of his wife, Sandra, as well as his daughter and two |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | grandchildren; in his spare time, he raises horses and races them, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and he looks forward to spending more time on those activities after |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | completing his final term in office; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Tommy Williams has devoted his professional law |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | enforcement career to assisting and safeguarding the citizens of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Atascosa County, and he may take justifiable pride in his |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | longstanding record of achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby honor Sheriff Tommy W. Williams for his |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | outstanding service to Atascosa County and extend to him sincere |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 43 | 43 | | prepared for Sheriff Williams as an expression of high regard by the |
