| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership of North Texas, HOBY |

| 6 | 6 | | Texas North, empowers future leaders to develop and fully utilize |

| 7 | 7 | | their potential in order to help build a brighter world; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1958 by film star Hugh O'Brian, HOBY has |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | motivated over 350,000 young people to become catalysts for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | positive change in their homes, schools, and communities; HOBY |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | seeks to promote democracy and free enterprise while encouraging |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | social responsibility and does not promote any particular political |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | or religious agenda; the organization's programs are conducted |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | throughout the United States, and the North Texas chapter was |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | incorporated in 1982; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, HOBY focuses on students at the sophomore level of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | high school, and individuals are nominated by their schools for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | participation; in the course of completing the program, young |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | people learn the values of volunteerism, excellence, diversity, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | innovative thinking, leadership, and community partnership; HOBY |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | graduates emerge from the program with extensive knowledge of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | American economic system and a better understanding of what it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | takes to succeed within it; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, May 16, 2009, is HOBY Texas North Service Day, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | this special observance provides a fitting opportunity to recognize |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | this outstanding organization and commend the students who are |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | taking part in its training and service programs; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership of North |
