| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Tomball High School Junior Reserve Officers' |

| 6 | 6 | | Training Corps helps prepare young Texans for the responsibilities |

| 7 | 7 | | of adulthood while teaching them the fundamental principles that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | underlie good citizenship; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Commissioned in 1994, Tomball Junior ROTC began |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | under the leadership of Master Chief Cab Boston, Jr., and Commander |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Gaston Buford, who continue to provide able guidance to the unit; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | addition, Chief Erick Geisler has been helping to direct the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school's cadets since 2001; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Tomball Junior ROTC has been considered an Honor |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Unit for the past two years, and its drill team recently finished |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 10th in state competition; moreover, the 165 cadets at Tomball |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | accumulated a total of 2,200 community service hours in 2008; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, By participating in Tomball Junior ROTC, members |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | gain a better understanding of ethical values and develop a range of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | important qualities, including leadership ability, physical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fitness, and cooperative teamwork skills; in so doing, they are |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to excellence that |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | will be of lasting benefit to their communities; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Tomball High School Junior Reserve |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Officers' Training Corps and extend to its officers and cadets |

| 28 | 28 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
