| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Mary Jo |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Bartlett of Taylor, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of 65; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was born in Temple on April 3, 1943, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to Thomas and Flora Simonington Barrett; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The first woman police officer in the history of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Williamson County, Ms. Bartlett began her career as a patrol |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | officer with the Taylor Police Department in 1977; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She worked her way up in a male-dominated field, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | earning promotions to the rank of sergeant and lieutenant, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | finishing her distinguished 23-year career as a detective in the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | criminal investigations division; she retired in 2000; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was an exemplary peace officer |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | whose tenacity and determination earned her much respect from her |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | fellow officers; off duty, she was a caring and compassionate |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | friend and mother who had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | disposition, and she will be forever remembered by all those who |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Jo Bartlett and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sons, Mark Bartlett and Brian Bartlett and his wife, Shannon; to her |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | sister, Betty Emmert, and her husband, Jack; to her brother, Terry |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Barrett; to her four grandchildren; and to her other relatives and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | many friends; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
