44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Mary Jo
66 Bartlett of Taylor, who died on February 22, 2009, at the age of 65;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was born in Temple on April 3, 1943,
99 to Thomas and Flora Simonington Barrett; and
1010 WHEREAS, The first woman police officer in the history of
1111 Williamson County, Ms. Bartlett began her career as a patrol
1212 officer with the Taylor Police Department in 1977; and
1313 WHEREAS, She worked her way up in a male-dominated field,
1414 earning promotions to the rank of sergeant and lieutenant, and
1515 finishing her distinguished 23-year career as a detective in the
1616 criminal investigations division; she retired in 2000; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mary Jo Bartlett was an exemplary peace officer
1818 whose tenacity and determination earned her much respect from her
1919 fellow officers; off duty, she was a caring and compassionate
2020 friend and mother who had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind
2121 disposition, and she will be forever remembered by all those who
2222 knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Jo Bartlett and
2525 extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
2626 sons, Mark Bartlett and Brian Bartlett and his wife, Shannon; to her
2727 sister, Betty Emmert, and her husband, Jack; to her brother, Terry
2828 Barrett; to her four grandchildren; and to her other relatives and
2929 many friends; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
3232 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Jo
3333 Bartlett.
