5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |

6 | 6 | | cause for celebration, and Carl Fisher of Midland is reaching that |
---|
7 | 7 | | impressive milestone on March 19, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1909 in Maryville, Missouri, to Jesse and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Maude Fisher, Carl Fisher gained a lifelong love of learning from |
---|
10 | 10 | | his father, who was both a skilled mechanic and an avid reader; Mr. |
---|
11 | 11 | | Fisher later earned a degree in social studies with a minor in music |
---|
12 | 12 | | from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Fisher got a job in a |
---|
14 | 14 | | small town in Michigan, teaching social studies as well as |
---|
15 | 15 | | directing the choir and the annual school play; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, It was during this period that he was joined in |
---|
17 | 17 | | marriage to his college sweetheart, Betty, and the couple enjoyed a |
---|
18 | 18 | | long and loving relationship until her death in the 1980s; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, At the beginning of their life together in Michigan, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Mr. and Mrs. Fisher were blessed with two children, Patricia and |
---|
21 | 21 | | Jack; with a young family to support, Mr. Fisher changed careers, |
---|
22 | 22 | | taking a job with the Gulf Oil Company and working in Tulsa, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Seminole, Durango, Billings, and Salt Lake City; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In the 1960s, he was transferred to Gulf's Midland |
---|
25 | 25 | | division, where he worked in a number of positions and retired in |
---|
26 | 26 | | 1975 as section supervisor in the Comptroller Department; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Carl Fisher has witnessed many changes in the past |
---|
28 | 28 | | century, but the blessings of inspiring parents, a loving wife and |
---|
29 | 29 | | children, and many wonderful friends have remained constant sources |
---|
30 | 30 | | of strength and wisdom, and he may indeed reflect with pride on all |
---|
31 | 31 | | that he has experienced during a full and generous life; now, |
---|
32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Carl Fisher of Midland on the |

35 | 35 | | occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes |

36 | 36 | | for a meaningful and memorable celebration; and, be it further |
