55 WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
66 cause for celebration, and Carl Fisher of Midland is reaching that
77 impressive milestone on March 19, 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in 1909 in Maryville, Missouri, to Jesse and
99 Maude Fisher, Carl Fisher gained a lifelong love of learning from
1010 his father, who was both a skilled mechanic and an avid reader; Mr.
1111 Fisher later earned a degree in social studies with a minor in music
1212 from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College; and
1313 WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Fisher got a job in a
1414 small town in Michigan, teaching social studies as well as
1515 directing the choir and the annual school play; and
1616 WHEREAS, It was during this period that he was joined in
1717 marriage to his college sweetheart, Betty, and the couple enjoyed a
1818 long and loving relationship until her death in the 1980s; and
1919 WHEREAS, At the beginning of their life together in Michigan,
2020 Mr. and Mrs. Fisher were blessed with two children, Patricia and
2121 Jack; with a young family to support, Mr. Fisher changed careers,
2222 taking a job with the Gulf Oil Company and working in Tulsa,
2323 Seminole, Durango, Billings, and Salt Lake City; and
2424 WHEREAS, In the 1960s, he was transferred to Gulf's Midland
2525 division, where he worked in a number of positions and retired in
2626 1975 as section supervisor in the Comptroller Department; and
2727 WHEREAS, Carl Fisher has witnessed many changes in the past
2828 century, but the blessings of inspiring parents, a loving wife and
2929 children, and many wonderful friends have remained constant sources
3030 of strength and wisdom, and he may indeed reflect with pride on all
3131 that he has experienced during a full and generous life; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby congratulate Carl Fisher of Midland on the
3535 occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes
3636 for a meaningful and memorable celebration; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Mr. Fisher as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3939 House of Representatives.
