| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Benefit Pow Wow in Pasadena brings together |

| 6 | 6 | | Native American peoples in the Houston area every month for a |

| 7 | 7 | | celebration of their rich cultures, proud heritage, and deep |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | spiritual roots; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Texas has the fourth-largest population of Native |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Americans in the nation, and the pow wow provides a fine opportunity |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for Houston's Indians to share their history and beliefs with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | general public and to pass their traditions to a new generation; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by a new organization, United American |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Indian Tribes Houston, the monthly pow wow features ceremonial |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | dances performed by members of various tribes in their traditional |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | regalia; the event is open to anyone, and participants and visitors |

| 17 | 17 | | may also sample traditional foods and crafts; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Benefit Pow Wow plays an important role in |

| 19 | 19 | | maintaining the cultural vitality of the native peoples of Texas |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and contributes greatly to the robust diversity of the Lone Star |

| 21 | 21 | | State; now, therefore, be it |

| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby recognize the monthly Benefit Pow Wow of United |

| 24 | 24 | | American Indian Tribes Houston and commend the event's organizers |

| 25 | 25 | | and participants for honoring traditions of Native American |
