| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Wichita Falls lost a generous and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | dedicated public servant with the passing of John Curry on February |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 17, 2009, at the age of 47; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An alumnus of The University of Texas School of Law, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mr. Curry began his career in public service soon after his 1987 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduation, when he joined Wichita County as an assistant public |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | defender; his distinguished service in that position led to his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | promotion to chief public defender in 1992; throughout his 19-year |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | tenure, he was known for his dedication, hard work, and the legal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | expertise he brought to the cases of everyone he represented; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Curry afforded those who retained his services |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the dignity and respect due to every human being, regardless of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | their circumstances; a kind man of strong principles and character, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he did not judge people for past mistakes, nor did he hesitate to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | provide assistance to those in need; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, John Curry believed in protecting the rights of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | underrepresented and less privileged members of his community, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | he leaves behind a legacy of public service that will continue to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Curry and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; and, be |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Curry. |
