No. 850 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Hermelinda Economedes of Edinburg, who died on February 23, 2009, at the age of 66; and WHEREAS, Linda Economedes was born in Edinburg on September 25, 1942, to Cayetano Casas and Gregoria Lopez Diaz; also known as "Mellie" to her close friends, she attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1961; and WHEREAS, After earning her nursing degree, Mrs. Economedes worked as a nurse with several Edinburg physicians over the years; later in life, she worked in real estate; and WHEREAS, In 1967, Mrs. Economedes was joined in marriage to Johnny G. "The Greek" Economedes, and they were blessed with two children, DeAnne and Andrew; the couple shared a happy life together until 1998, when Mr. Economedes passed away; and WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious faith, Mrs. Economedes was an active, lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as a lector and as a member of the ACTS Brothers and Sisters, the Disciples in Mission, and the Women of Grace; and WHEREAS, She was active in the greater community as well, serving on the Pan American Round Table of Edinburg and representing the Edinburg Fire Department on the Texas Forest Service Rural Fire Advisory Council; she was also a member of the Edinburg Friends of the Library and the McAllen Booklovers Club; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to her family, her community, and her faith, Linda Economedes was a warm and compassionate woman, and she leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hermelinda Economedes and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her daughter, DeAnne Economedes; to her son, Andrew Economedes; to her sisters, Cecilia Casas and Evangelina Garza and her husband, Carlos; to her sisters-in-law, Maria Elena Casas and Lydia Casas; to her brother-in-law, Israel Rodriguez; to her longtime friend, Maria de Jesus "Chuy" Chia; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hermelinda Economedes.
