| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Hermelinda Economedes of Edinburg, who died on February 23, 2009, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 66; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Linda Economedes was born in Edinburg on September |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | 25, 1942, to Cayetano Casas and Gregoria Lopez Diaz; also known as |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | "Mellie" to her close friends, she attended Sacred Heart School and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | graduated from Edinburg High School in 1961; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After earning her nursing degree, Mrs. Economedes |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | worked as a nurse with several Edinburg physicians over the years; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | later in life, she worked in real estate; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1967, Mrs. Economedes was joined in marriage to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Johnny G. "The Greek" Economedes, and they were blessed with two |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | children, DeAnne and Andrew; the couple shared a happy life |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | together until 1998, when Mr. Economedes passed away; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious faith, Mrs. Economedes |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | was an active, lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | serving as a lector and as a member of the ACTS Brothers and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Sisters, the Disciples in Mission, and the Women of Grace; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, She was active in the greater community as well, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | serving on the Pan American Round Table of Edinburg and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | representing the Edinburg Fire Department on the Texas Forest |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Service Rural Fire Advisory Council; she was also a member of the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Edinburg Friends of the Library and the McAllen Booklovers Club; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to her family, her community, and her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | faith, Linda Economedes was a warm and compassionate woman, and she |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those who |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hermelinda Economedes |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | daughter, DeAnne Economedes; to her son, Andrew Economedes; to her |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | sisters, Cecilia Casas and Evangelina Garza and her husband, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Carlos; to her sisters-in-law, Maria Elena Casas and Lydia Casas; |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | to her brother-in-law, Israel Rodriguez; to her longtime friend, |

| 40 | 40 | | Maria de Jesus "Chuy" Chia; and to her other relatives and many |
