44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of
66 Hermelinda Economedes of Edinburg, who died on February 23, 2009,
77 at the age of 66; and
88 WHEREAS, Linda Economedes was born in Edinburg on September
99 25, 1942, to Cayetano Casas and Gregoria Lopez Diaz; also known as
1010 "Mellie" to her close friends, she attended Sacred Heart School and
1111 graduated from Edinburg High School in 1961; and
1212 WHEREAS, After earning her nursing degree, Mrs. Economedes
1313 worked as a nurse with several Edinburg physicians over the years;
1414 later in life, she worked in real estate; and
1515 WHEREAS, In 1967, Mrs. Economedes was joined in marriage to
1616 Johnny G. "The Greek" Economedes, and they were blessed with two
1717 children, DeAnne and Andrew; the couple shared a happy life
1818 together until 1998, when Mr. Economedes passed away; and
1919 WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious faith, Mrs. Economedes
2020 was an active, lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
2121 serving as a lector and as a member of the ACTS Brothers and
2222 Sisters, the Disciples in Mission, and the Women of Grace; and
2323 WHEREAS, She was active in the greater community as well,
2424 serving on the Pan American Round Table of Edinburg and
2525 representing the Edinburg Fire Department on the Texas Forest
2626 Service Rural Fire Advisory Council; she was also a member of the
2727 Edinburg Friends of the Library and the McAllen Booklovers Club;
2828 and
2929 WHEREAS, Dedicated to her family, her community, and her
3030 faith, Linda Economedes was a warm and compassionate woman, and she
3131 leaves behind memories that will be forever treasured by those who
3232 knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hermelinda Economedes
3535 and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
3636 daughter, DeAnne Economedes; to her son, Andrew Economedes; to her
3737 sisters, Cecilia Casas and Evangelina Garza and her husband,
3838 Carlos; to her sisters-in-law, Maria Elena Casas and Lydia Casas;
3939 to her brother-in-law, Israel Rodriguez; to her longtime friend,
4040 Maria de Jesus "Chuy" Chia; and to her other relatives and many
4141 friends; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hermelinda
4545 Economedes.
