 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Jim McKone was inducted as an inaugural member of
 The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor on
 February 21, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, A part of the UTPA Athletics Hall of Fame, the Hall
 of Honor pays tribute to individuals other than coaches and players
 who have made significant contributions to university athletic
 programs; and
 WHEREAS, Beginning in 1969, Mr. McKone served as sports
 information director for the university, covering events for UTPA's
 many athletic programs and coordinating game management; one of his
 most significant accomplishments was the creation of the Bronc
 Diary, a daily journal of UTPA athletics, which ran for 11 years and
 contained some 3,000 entries before it ceased in 1998; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. McKone retired as sports information director in
 1999 and was chosen for a Lifetime Achievement Award by College
 Sports Information Directors of America that same year; moreover,
 he served as president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers
 Association in 1980 and 1981 and as public relations officer for the
 Hidalgo County Historical Museum in Edinburg; and
 WHEREAS, Jim McKone worked tirelessly in support of UTPA
 athletics, and his outstanding legacy of service is justly
 recognized with this honor; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Jim McKone on his induction into
 The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor and
 commend him for his contributions to the UTPA athletic community;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. McKone as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
