| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim McKone was inducted as an inaugural member of |

| 6 | 6 | | The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor on |

| 7 | 7 | | February 21, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A part of the UTPA Athletics Hall of Fame, the Hall |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | of Honor pays tribute to individuals other than coaches and players |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | who have made significant contributions to university athletic |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | programs; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Beginning in 1969, Mr. McKone served as sports |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | information director for the university, covering events for UTPA's |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | many athletic programs and coordinating game management; one of his |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | most significant accomplishments was the creation of the Bronc |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Diary, a daily journal of UTPA athletics, which ran for 11 years and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | contained some 3,000 entries before it ceased in 1998; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McKone retired as sports information director in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 1999 and was chosen for a Lifetime Achievement Award by College |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Sports Information Directors of America that same year; moreover, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he served as president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Association in 1980 and 1981 and as public relations officer for the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Hidalgo County Historical Museum in Edinburg; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Jim McKone worked tirelessly in support of UTPA |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | athletics, and his outstanding legacy of service is justly |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | recognized with this honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jim McKone on his induction into |

| 29 | 29 | | The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor and |

| 30 | 30 | | commend him for his contributions to the UTPA athletic community; |
