H.R. No. 853 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, David Lopez of Edinburg commemorated five decades in the barber's trade in December 2008, and on January 9, 2009, he and his wife, Emma Avila Lopez, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary; and WHEREAS, On December 4, 1958, David Lopez obtained his barber's license, and since that time he has earned loyal customers with his skills, good humor, and genial nature; the owner of the Mug and Brush Barber Shop at the Echo Hotel and Conference Center in Edinburg, Mr. Lopez is admired by his fellow residents and by many South Texas politicians, including members of the Texas Legislature; in fact, State Representative Aaron Pea has been his customer for 41 years, and the Mug and Brush Barber Shop remains a cherished spot for swapping stories and jokes and for engaging in spirited political discussions; and WHEREAS, In addition to his successful business, Mr. Lopez takes great pride in his family; he married the former Emma Avila in January 1959, and the couple have since been blessed with six children, Marissa, Ruth, Yolette, Priscilla, Derick, and David; Mr. and Mrs. Lopez have also shared the joy of welcoming 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren into their family; and WHEREAS, With the support of his beloved wife, David Lopez has reached significant milestones in both his professional and personal lives, and for their enduring commitment to one another, Mr. and Mrs. Lopez continue to inspire all those who are fortunate enough to know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor David Lopez for his 50 years as a barber and congratulate David and Emma Avila Lopez on their five decades of marriage; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Lopez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
