5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Richard |

6 | 6 | | M. Hull of Dallas, who passed away on February 20, 2009, at the age |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Dick Hull was born on February 8, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1940, in the Oak Cliff neighborhood; he excelled in baseball at |
---|
10 | 10 | | Jesuit College Preparatory School and earned both his undergraduate |
---|
11 | 11 | | and law degrees at Southern Methodist University, where he served |
---|
12 | 12 | | as editor of the Southwestern Bar Journal and lettered in baseball; |
---|
13 | 13 | | and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hull's exceptional score on the Texas state bar |
---|
15 | 15 | | exam brought an invitation to join the Wall Street law firm of Dewey |
---|
16 | 16 | | Ballantine in 1964; his tenure there was interrupted with U.S. Army |
---|
17 | 17 | | service in Alaska; returning to his hometown, he joined the law firm |

18 | 18 | | of Wynne, Jaffe and Tinsley and in 1977 cofounded Crutcher, Hull, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Ramsey and Jordan; a longtime corporate and securities attorney, he |
---|
20 | 20 | | counted among his clients the first Texas Rangers baseball players |
---|
21 | 21 | | and Lady Bird Johnson; late in his career, he established Hull and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Associates, where he worked with entrepreneurs as well as |
---|
23 | 23 | | businesses that needed help; moreover, Mr. Hull was known for |
---|
24 | 24 | | encouraging many of the city's top lawyers to perform pro bono work |
---|
25 | 25 | | for the poor; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, For his work as a founder of the Dallas Bar |
---|
27 | 27 | | Association's Volunteer Attorney Program, which has been |
---|
28 | 28 | | designated the top such program in the nation by the American Bar |
---|
29 | 29 | | Association, Mr. Hull was named a 2004 distinguished alumnus by |
---|
30 | 30 | | SMU's Dedman School of Law; he was named Distinguished Alumnus of |
---|
31 | 31 | | the Year in 2006 by Jesuit College Preparatory School for his |
---|
32 | 32 | | extensive volunteerism as chair of the board of trustees, as |
---|
33 | 33 | | president of the president's board of advisors, and as a member of |
---|
34 | 34 | | the Jesuit Foundation; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney leaves behind an |
---|
36 | 36 | | immeasurable legacy of service to his community, and he will be |
---|
37 | 37 | | greatly missed by those individuals who were fortunate enough to |
---|
38 | 38 | | share in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard M. Hull and |

41 | 41 | | extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his |

42 | 42 | | wife, Susan Hull; to his children, Rich Hull, Tracey Antrim and her |

43 | 43 | | husband, Eric, and Blakely Hull; to his sister, Anna Lemaster; to |
