55 WHEREAS, General Michael W. Hagee, United States Marine Corps
66 (Ret.), of Fredericksburg, has been appointed executive director of
77 the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, effective January 5, 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, A member of the foundation's board since 2007,
99 General Hagee will play a vital role in advancing the work of that
1010 organization, which has supported the National Museum of the
1111 Pacific War since 1970; located on nine acres in Fredericksburg and
1212 operated under the auspices of the Texas Historical Commission, the
1313 museum is the only institution in the continental United States
1414 dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific theater
1515 battles of World War II; and
1616 WHEREAS, Born and raised in Fredericksburg, General Hagee
1717 joined the navy in 1963 and graduated with distinction from the U.S.
1818 Naval Academy in 1968; during a career of nearly four decades, he
1919 served as commanding general of the 1st Marine Division and the I
2020 Marine Expeditionary Force, as senior military assistant to the
2121 deputy secretary of defense, as executive assistant to the director
2222 of central intelligence, as deputy director of operations for the
2323 U.S. European Command, and as director of strategic plans and
2424 policy for the U.S. Pacific Command; he became the 33rd commandant
2525 of the marine corps in 2003 and served as a member of the Joint
2626 Chiefs of Staff from 2004 until his retirement from the service in
2727 2007; and
2828 WHEREAS, General Hagee's numerous military awards include
2929 the Defense Distinguished Service Medal with two palms, the Defense
3030 Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two gold stars, the
3131 Bronze Star with Combat "V," and the Defense Meritorious Service
3232 Medal; he has also received personal decorations from a number of
3333 foreign countries; and
3434 WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan holds a bachelor's degree
3535 in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a master's
3636 degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate
3737 School, and a master's degree in national security studies from the
3838 U.S. Naval War College; and
3939 WHEREAS, General Michael Hagee has rendered exceptional
4040 service to this country in both war and peace, and Texans are indeed
4141 fortunate that he is devoting his time and talents to furthering the
4242 mission of the National Museum of the Pacific War; now, therefore,
4343 be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby honor General Michael W. Hagee, United States
4646 Marine Corps (Ret.), on his appointment as executive director of
4747 the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and extend to him sincere best wishes
4848 for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for General Hagee as an expression of high regard by the
5151 Texas House of Representatives.
