5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, General Michael W. Hagee, United States Marine Corps |

6 | 6 | | (Ret.), of Fredericksburg, has been appointed executive director of |

7 | 7 | | the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, effective January 5, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A member of the foundation's board since 2007, |
---|
9 | 9 | | General Hagee will play a vital role in advancing the work of that |
---|
10 | 10 | | organization, which has supported the National Museum of the |
---|
11 | 11 | | Pacific War since 1970; located on nine acres in Fredericksburg and |
---|
12 | 12 | | operated under the auspices of the Texas Historical Commission, the |
---|
13 | 13 | | museum is the only institution in the continental United States |
---|
14 | 14 | | dedicated exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific theater |
---|
15 | 15 | | battles of World War II; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in Fredericksburg, General Hagee |
---|
17 | 17 | | joined the navy in 1963 and graduated with distinction from the U.S. |
---|
18 | 18 | | Naval Academy in 1968; during a career of nearly four decades, he |
---|
19 | 19 | | served as commanding general of the 1st Marine Division and the I |
---|
20 | 20 | | Marine Expeditionary Force, as senior military assistant to the |
---|
21 | 21 | | deputy secretary of defense, as executive assistant to the director |
---|
22 | 22 | | of central intelligence, as deputy director of operations for the |
---|
23 | 23 | | U.S. European Command, and as director of strategic plans and |
---|
24 | 24 | | policy for the U.S. Pacific Command; he became the 33rd commandant |
---|
25 | 25 | | of the marine corps in 2003 and served as a member of the Joint |
---|
26 | 26 | | Chiefs of Staff from 2004 until his retirement from the service in |
---|
27 | 27 | | 2007; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, General Hagee's numerous military awards include |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Defense Distinguished Service Medal with two palms, the Defense |
---|
30 | 30 | | Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two gold stars, the |
---|
31 | 31 | | Bronze Star with Combat "V," and the Defense Meritorious Service |
---|
32 | 32 | | Medal; he has also received personal decorations from a number of |
---|
33 | 33 | | foreign countries; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished Texan holds a bachelor's degree |
---|
35 | 35 | | in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a master's |
---|
36 | 36 | | degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate |
---|
37 | 37 | | School, and a master's degree in national security studies from the |
---|
38 | 38 | | U.S. Naval War College; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, General Michael Hagee has rendered exceptional |
---|
40 | 40 | | service to this country in both war and peace, and Texans are indeed |
---|
41 | 41 | | fortunate that he is devoting his time and talents to furthering the |
---|
42 | 42 | | mission of the National Museum of the Pacific War; now, therefore, |
---|
43 | 43 | | be it |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby honor General Michael W. Hagee, United States |

46 | 46 | | Marine Corps (Ret.), on his appointment as executive director of |

47 | 47 | | the Admiral Nimitz Foundation and extend to him sincere best wishes |
