 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, In an effort to raise awareness about the lack of
 access to health care for the uninsured, the City of DeSoto and
 Parkland Health & Hospital System are sponsoring the 2009 Cover the
 Uninsured Health Expo on March 23, to coincide with Cover the
 Uninsured Week from March 22 to 28, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Primary health care is essential to the well-being
 of every man, woman, and child, yet an estimated 26.3 percent of
 Texans under the age of 65 are lacking health coverage; and
 WHEREAS, Cover the Uninsured Week, a project of the Robert
 Wood Johnson Foundation, brings together employers, workers,
 educators, students, patients, hospital staff, physicians, nurses,
 faith leaders and their congregants, and many others to speak out on
 behalf of the uninsured; and
 WHEREAS, The DeSoto expo is featuring free health screenings,
 as well as information on early detection and prevention; and
 WHEREAS, Far too many Texans are living without health
 insurance, the consequences of which are poorer health and
 premature death, and it is vital that citizens and public officials
 collaborate to address this critical issue; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Cover the Uninsured Health
 Expo in DeSoto and recognize March 22-28, 2009, as Cover the
 Uninsured Week.
