H.R. No. 890
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lupe Garcia was inducted as an inaugural member of
The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor on
February 21, 2009; and
WHEREAS, A part of the UTPA Athletics Hall of Fame, the Hall
of Honor pays tribute to individuals other than coaches and players
who have made significant contributions to university athletic
programs; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Garcia left his position with the
college physical plant and joined the athletic department as the
equipment manager and primary bus driver for UTPA sports teams; he
served admirably in that capacity for 35 years and through the
tenures of eight athletic directors, logging more than half a
million road miles while driving athletes to competitions
throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Coach," this dedicated
worker was a beloved member of the UTPA athletic community and was
considered an indispensible part of the teams he chauffeured; and
WHEREAS, Lupe Garcia devoted long hours to supporting UTPA
athletic squads, and his outstanding legacy of service is justly
recognized with this honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lupe Garcia on his induction into
The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor and
commend him for his contributions to the UTPA athletic community;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
