| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lupe Garcia was inducted as an inaugural member of |

| 6 | 6 | | The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor on |

| 7 | 7 | | February 21, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A part of the UTPA Athletics Hall of Fame, the Hall |

| 9 | 9 | | of Honor pays tribute to individuals other than coaches and players |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | who have made significant contributions to university athletic |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | programs; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Garcia left his position with the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | college physical plant and joined the athletic department as the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | equipment manager and primary bus driver for UTPA sports teams; he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | served admirably in that capacity for 35 years and through the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | tenures of eight athletic directors, logging more than half a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | million road miles while driving athletes to competitions |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | throughout the country; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Coach," this dedicated |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | worker was a beloved member of the UTPA athletic community and was |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | considered an indispensible part of the teams he chauffeured; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Lupe Garcia devoted long hours to supporting UTPA |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | athletic squads, and his outstanding legacy of service is justly |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | recognized with this honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lupe Garcia on his induction into |

| 27 | 27 | | The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Honor and |

| 28 | 28 | | commend him for his contributions to the UTPA athletic community; |
