 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Katie Stone of Hornedo Middle School in El Paso has
 won great distinction for herself and her school by taking first
 place in the 2009 El Paso Times Spelling Bee; and
 WHEREAS, An eighth-grader at the school, this talented
 13-year-old has participated twice before in the El Paso spelling
 bee, as a fifth- and sixth-grader; and
 WHEREAS, This year, Miss Stone competed against 120 students
 from area elementary and middle schools; the two-day contest lasted
 18 rounds, making it the longest spelling bee in El Paso history;
 and
 WHEREAS, Miss Stone triumphed in the final round of
 competition by correctly spelling "cauterize," and her victory
 qualifies her to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee
 in Washington, D.C., in May; and
 WHEREAS, Miss Stone's ability, determination, and poise
 under pressure are impressive, and she may indeed look forward to a
 future that is bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Katie Stone on winning the 2009 El
 Paso Times Spelling Bee and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Miss Stone as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
