| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Shaolin Kung Fu Academy in Houston is staging a |

| 6 | 6 | | multidisciplinary martial arts performance on March 28, 2009, to |

| 7 | 7 | | raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Students of the Houston Shaolin Kung Fu Academy |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | compete in regional tournaments and provide demonstrations of their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | abilities throughout the city and the surrounding area; founded in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1998, the academy encourages its students to observe the Shaolin |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | values of tolerance, righteousness, and respect and urges them to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | develop a strong sense of community, and this benefit performance |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | is a means of putting those ideals into practice; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a leading |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | facility for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | other devastating diseases of childhood; this generous |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | organization provides assistance regardless of a patient's ability |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to pay, and the institution relies on donations acquired through |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fund-raising sources to underwrite its services; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Houston Shaolin Kung Fu Academy and St. Jude |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Children's Research Hospital are joining together to further a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | worthy goal, and it is a pleasure to recognize this significant |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | charitable event; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commend Shaolin Kung Fu Academy on the occasion |

| 27 | 27 | | of its 2009 charity performance to benefit St. Jude Children's |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Research Hospital and encourage area citizens to support this |

| 29 | 29 | | admirable endeavor; and, be it further |
