 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Texas AFL-CIO President Becky Moeller has been
 elected president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO by the South
 Central AFL-CIO Council; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to overseeing 13 southern states in her
 new position, Ms. Moeller becomes a member of the national AFL-CIO
 General Board, a body that advises the governing national AFL-CIO
 Executive Council; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller's involvement in the labor movement
 dates back to 1967, when she joined Communications Workers of
 America Local 6137 in Corpus Christi as an employee of Southwestern
 Bell; she went on to serve the group in a variety of roles,
 including job steward, chief steward, executive board member, vice
 president, secretary-treasurer, and president; and
 WHEREAS, At the state level, Ms. Moeller has been a member of
 the Texas AFL-CIO executive board and chair of the scholarship
 committee; in 2003, she became the first woman to hold statewide
 office in the organization when she was elected
 secretary-treasurer; and
 WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Ann Richards to serve as chair
 of the commission overseeing the Texas Department of Licensing and
 Regulation, she has also worked to benefit her fellow citizens as a
 member of the United Way Board of Governors and the Coastal Bend
 Workforce Development Board; and
 WHEREAS, Becky Moeller has helped countless individuals to
 achieve greater security and hope for a brighter future, and her
 election to this important office is confirmation of her
 outstanding leadership skills and effective advocacy on behalf of
 working families; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Becky Moeller on her election as
 president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Moeller as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
