5	5	WHEREAS, Texas AFL-CIO President Becky Moeller has been
6	6	elected president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO by the South
7	7	Central AFL-CIO Council; and
8	8	WHEREAS, In addition to overseeing 13 southern states in her
9	9	new position, Ms. Moeller becomes a member of the national AFL-CIO
10	10	General Board, a body that advises the governing national AFL-CIO
11	11	Executive Council; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller's involvement in the labor movement
13	13	dates back to 1967, when she joined Communications Workers of
14	14	America Local 6137 in Corpus Christi as an employee of Southwestern
15	15	Bell; she went on to serve the group in a variety of roles,
16	16	including job steward, chief steward, executive board member, vice
17	17	president, secretary-treasurer, and president; and
18	18	WHEREAS, At the state level, Ms. Moeller has been a member of
19	19	the Texas AFL-CIO executive board and chair of the scholarship
20	20	committee; in 2003, she became the first woman to hold statewide
21	21	office in the organization when she was elected
22	22	secretary-treasurer; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Ann Richards to serve as chair
24	24	of the commission overseeing the Texas Department of Licensing and
25	25	Regulation, she has also worked to benefit her fellow citizens as a
26	26	member of the United Way Board of Governors and the Coastal Bend
27	27	Workforce Development Board; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Becky Moeller has helped countless individuals to
29	29	achieve greater security and hope for a brighter future, and her
30	30	election to this important office is confirmation of her
31	31	outstanding leadership skills and effective advocacy on behalf of
32	32	working families; now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
34	34	Legislature hereby congratulate Becky Moeller on her election as
35	35	president of the Southern Region of the AFL-CIO and extend to her
36	36	sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work;
37	37	and, be it further
38	38	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
39	39	prepared for Ms. Moeller as an expression of high regard by the
40	40	Texas House of Representatives.
