No. 938 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Since 1903 Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services (PCHAS) has provided hope to thousands of young Texans and their families, creating group homes, providing foster homes, and developing many services and programs to meet the needs of those in crisis; and WHEREAS, For the past century, PCHAS has served as a vital resource to many; whether helping young people to overcome abuse, neglect, or abandonment, or lending a helping hand to families facing economic hardship, serious parental illness, or other parenting crises, the organization has made this state all the better through its fine work; and WHEREAS, In 1976, PCHAS recognized the challenges facing children in San Antonio and opened a group home in the city for boys with nowhere else to turn; and WHEREAS, From the day the doors of this home first opened, the women of San Antonio's Presbyterian churches have stepped in to help meet the needs of the children in the care of PCHAS, fulfilling not just the material needs of these youth but also contributing to their spiritual and educational development; and WHEREAS, In 1981, these compassionate women organized under the name Nuestra Casa Auxiliary, formalizing their relationship with PCHAS and further committing themselves to the service and success of children in need; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 26, 2009, as Nuestra Casa Auxiliary Day in Texas and commend the members of this outstanding group for their ongoing efforts to benefit this state's citizens; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services and Nuestra Casa Auxiliary as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
