| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since 1903 Presbyterian Children's Homes and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Services (PCHAS) has provided hope to thousands of young Texans and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | their families, creating group homes, providing foster homes, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | developing many services and programs to meet the needs of those in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | crisis; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, PCHAS has served as a vital |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | resource to many; whether helping young people to overcome abuse, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | neglect, or abandonment, or lending a helping hand to families |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | facing economic hardship, serious parental illness, or other |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | parenting crises, the organization has made this state all the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | better through its fine work; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1976, PCHAS recognized the challenges facing |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | children in San Antonio and opened a group home in the city for boys |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | with nowhere else to turn; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, From the day the doors of this home first opened, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | women of San Antonio's Presbyterian churches have stepped in to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | help meet the needs of the children in the care of PCHAS, fulfilling |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | not just the material needs of these youth but also contributing to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | their spiritual and educational development; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, these compassionate women organized under |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the name Nuestra Casa Auxiliary, formalizing their relationship |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | with PCHAS and further committing themselves to the service and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | success of children in need; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 26, 2009, as Nuestra Casa |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Auxiliary Day in Texas and commend the members of this outstanding |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | group for their ongoing efforts to benefit this state's citizens; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 35 | 35 | | prepared for Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services and Nuestra |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Casa Auxiliary as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of |
