44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Residents of Pasadena lost a valued community leader
66 with the passing of Donald Ray Carpenter, Sr., on March 1, 2009, at
77 the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, Born to William and Claudia Carpenter in Kosse on
99 July 5, 1931, Donald Carpenter graduated from John H. Reagan High
1010 School and went on to study at The University of Texas and the
1111 University of Houston; he began working for Southwestern Bell
1212 Telephone Company at the age of 17 as a mail room clerk and was
1313 employed by the company for 40 years, eventually retiring as
1414 district manager; moreover, he served his nation as a member of the
1515 Air Force Reserve; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Carpenter devoted himself to his community in
1717 the years following his retirement, serving as president of the
1818 Pasadena Rotary Club and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and as
1919 chief of staff for the City of Pasadena; possessing a deep knowledge
2020 of local issues and a strong rapport with elected officials, he was
2121 a sought-after political advisor whose opinions were highly
2222 respected, and he was an active member of Park Place Masonic Lodge
2323 and a prominent supporter of the YMCA, the Salvation Army, and
2424 several other charitable causes; when not busy with other projects,
2525 he relished spending time on the golf course; and
2626 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Carpenter enjoyed the
2727 love and support of his wife, Barbara, with whom he shared nearly
2828 six decades of marriage; the couple were blessed with three
2929 children, Donald, Darrell, and Barbara, and had the pleasure of
3030 welcoming six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren into
3131 their family; and
3232 WHEREAS, Donald Carpenter lived a caring and purposeful life,
3333 and he will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of all
3434 those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Donald Ray
3737 Carpenter, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
3838 family: to his wife, Barbara Carpenter; to his children, Donald Ray
3939 Carpenter, Jr., and his wife, Shirley, Darrell Carpenter and his
4040 wife, Barbara, and Barbara Fonville and her husband, Kim; to his
4141 grandchildren, Lisa Ann Carpenter, Darrell Carpenter, Jr., and his
4242 wife, Susie, Donald Ray Carpenter III and his fiancee, Lindsay
4343 Overfield, Brandi Nicole Vorse and her husband, Brandon, Kimberly
4444 Fonville, and Crystal VanPutten; to his great-grandchildren, Cade
4545 Walker Carpenter and Katlyn and Nathan VanPutten; to his niece,
4646 Theresa Ann Works; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be
4747 it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Donald
5151 Carpenter.
