5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Pasadena lost a valued community leader |
---|
6 | 6 | | with the passing of Donald Ray Carpenter, Sr., on March 1, 2009, at |
---|
7 | 7 | | the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to William and Claudia Carpenter in Kosse on |
---|
9 | 9 | | July 5, 1931, Donald Carpenter graduated from John H. Reagan High |
---|
10 | 10 | | School and went on to study at The University of Texas and the |
---|
11 | 11 | | University of Houston; he began working for Southwestern Bell |
---|
12 | 12 | | Telephone Company at the age of 17 as a mail room clerk and was |
---|
13 | 13 | | employed by the company for 40 years, eventually retiring as |
---|
14 | 14 | | district manager; moreover, he served his nation as a member of the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Air Force Reserve; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carpenter devoted himself to his community in |
---|
17 | 17 | | the years following his retirement, serving as president of the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Pasadena Rotary Club and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and as |
---|
19 | 19 | | chief of staff for the City of Pasadena; possessing a deep knowledge |
---|
20 | 20 | | of local issues and a strong rapport with elected officials, he was |
---|
21 | 21 | | a sought-after political advisor whose opinions were highly |
---|
22 | 22 | | respected, and he was an active member of Park Place Masonic Lodge |
---|
23 | 23 | | and a prominent supporter of the YMCA, the Salvation Army, and |
---|
24 | 24 | | several other charitable causes; when not busy with other projects, |
---|
25 | 25 | | he relished spending time on the golf course; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Carpenter enjoyed the |
---|
27 | 27 | | love and support of his wife, Barbara, with whom he shared nearly |
---|
28 | 28 | | six decades of marriage; the couple were blessed with three |
---|
29 | 29 | | children, Donald, Darrell, and Barbara, and had the pleasure of |
---|
30 | 30 | | welcoming six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren into |
---|
31 | 31 | | their family; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Donald Carpenter lived a caring and purposeful life, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and he will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of all |
---|
34 | 34 | | those who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Donald Ray |

37 | 37 | | Carpenter, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |

38 | 38 | | family: to his wife, Barbara Carpenter; to his children, Donald Ray |

39 | 39 | | Carpenter, Jr., and his wife, Shirley, Darrell Carpenter and his |

40 | 40 | | wife, Barbara, and Barbara Fonville and her husband, Kim; to his |

41 | 41 | | grandchildren, Lisa Ann Carpenter, Darrell Carpenter, Jr., and his |
