44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Since 2000, Travis Allan Bryan has devoted more than
66 6,000 hours of volunteer community service to the citizens of
77 Texas; and
88 WHEREAS, His contributions as a soldier, EMT, educator,
99 political activist, Coast Guard Auxiliary member, Boy Scout leader,
1010 and ESGR committee member represent over three years of devoted
1111 service to his community and to his country; and
1212 WHEREAS, Travis Bryan enlisted as a military police officer
1313 in the Texas State Guard in 2005, and three years later, he was
1414 commissioned a second lieutenant in the Medical Reserve Brigade by
1515 Governor Rick Perry; and
1616 WHEREAS, In his work as a soldier and master military
1717 emergency management specialist, Mr. Bryan has served with
1818 distinction, volunteering for a number of humanitarian service
1919 operations in the Rio Grande Valley and for relief efforts
2020 following Hurricanes Katrina, Dolly, Gustav, and Ike; and
2121 WHEREAS, Since 2005, the President's Council on Service and
2222 Civic Participation has bestowed on this outstanding young Texan
2323 the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award four times; moreover,
2424 the council recognized him with its highest honor, the President's
2525 Call to Service Award, in 2007; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan's tireless dedication to his community and
2727 to humanitarian efforts has been acknowledged by the governors of
2828 11 states, including Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky,
2929 Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina,
3030 Oklahoma, and West Virginia, as well as by local elected officials
3131 throughout the country; and
3232 WHEREAS, Born in Pasadena to Michael R. Bryan, Sr., and the
3333 former Marla L. Starkey, Mr. Bryan has made education a priority in
3434 his life, and he has earned a certificate in emergency medical
3535 technology with honors from San Jacinto Community College and a
3636 certificate in emergency management with distinction from
3737 Frederick Community College in Maryland; since then, he has
3838 graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in religion from
3939 Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he is currently a
4040 candidate for a master of business administration degree in
4141 leadership; and
4242 WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan has contributed financially to many
4343 notable organizations through his membership in the Association of
4444 the United States Army, the Enlisted Association of the National
4545 Guard of the United States, the National Guard Association of
4646 Texas, the State Guard Association of the United States, the Texas
4747 State Guard nonprofit association, the National Association for
4848 Search and Rescue, and the National Rifle Association; and
4949 WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Bryan was elected president and chair
5050 of the National Association for Justice and Legal Reform and has
5151 further shared his time and talents through his leadership in
5252 numerous other civic and community organizations; and
5353 WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan presently serves as a precinct chair,
5454 presiding election judge, and volunteer deputy voter registrar in
5555 Harris County, and in 2008, he served on a Harris County signature
5656 verification committee and Early Voting Ballot Board; and
5757 WHEREAS, With the love and support of his wife, Amber, and his
5858 three children, Joshua, Matthew, and Brianna, Travis Bryan has
5959 devoted himself to serving his fellow Texans and to many worthy
6060 causes in which he believes; now, therefore, be it
6161 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
6262 Legislature hereby commend Travis Allan Bryan for his exemplary
6363 service to his community and to the State of Texas and extend to him
6464 sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors;
6565 and, be it further
6666 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
6767 prepared for Mr. Bryan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
6868 House of Representatives.
