5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since 2000, Travis Allan Bryan has devoted more than |

6 | 6 | | 6,000 hours of volunteer community service to the citizens of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Texas; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, His contributions as a soldier, EMT, educator, |
---|
9 | 9 | | political activist, Coast Guard Auxiliary member, Boy Scout leader, |
---|
10 | 10 | | and ESGR committee member represent over three years of devoted |
---|
11 | 11 | | service to his community and to his country; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Travis Bryan enlisted as a military police officer |
---|
13 | 13 | | in the Texas State Guard in 2005, and three years later, he was |
---|
14 | 14 | | commissioned a second lieutenant in the Medical Reserve Brigade by |
---|
15 | 15 | | Governor Rick Perry; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In his work as a soldier and master military |
---|
17 | 17 | | emergency management specialist, Mr. Bryan has served with |
---|
18 | 18 | | distinction, volunteering for a number of humanitarian service |
---|
19 | 19 | | operations in the Rio Grande Valley and for relief efforts |
---|
20 | 20 | | following Hurricanes Katrina, Dolly, Gustav, and Ike; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Since 2005, the President's Council on Service and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Civic Participation has bestowed on this outstanding young Texan |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award four times; moreover, |
---|
24 | 24 | | the council recognized him with its highest honor, the President's |
---|
25 | 25 | | Call to Service Award, in 2007; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan's tireless dedication to his community and |
---|
27 | 27 | | to humanitarian efforts has been acknowledged by the governors of |
---|
28 | 28 | | 11 states, including Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Louisiana, Maryland, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Oklahoma, and West Virginia, as well as by local elected officials |
---|
31 | 31 | | throughout the country; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Born in Pasadena to Michael R. Bryan, Sr., and the |
---|
33 | 33 | | former Marla L. Starkey, Mr. Bryan has made education a priority in |
---|
34 | 34 | | his life, and he has earned a certificate in emergency medical |
---|
35 | 35 | | technology with honors from San Jacinto Community College and a |
---|
36 | 36 | | certificate in emergency management with distinction from |
---|
37 | 37 | | Frederick Community College in Maryland; since then, he has |
---|
38 | 38 | | graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in religion from |
---|
39 | 39 | | Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he is currently a |
---|
40 | 40 | | candidate for a master of business administration degree in |
---|
41 | 41 | | leadership; and |
---|
42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan has contributed financially to many |
---|
43 | 43 | | notable organizations through his membership in the Association of |
---|
44 | 44 | | the United States Army, the Enlisted Association of the National |
---|
45 | 45 | | Guard of the United States, the National Guard Association of |
---|
46 | 46 | | Texas, the State Guard Association of the United States, the Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | State Guard nonprofit association, the National Association for |
---|
48 | 48 | | Search and Rescue, and the National Rifle Association; and |
---|
49 | 49 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Bryan was elected president and chair |
---|
50 | 50 | | of the National Association for Justice and Legal Reform and has |
---|
51 | 51 | | further shared his time and talents through his leadership in |
---|
52 | 52 | | numerous other civic and community organizations; and |
---|
53 | 53 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bryan presently serves as a precinct chair, |
---|
54 | 54 | | presiding election judge, and volunteer deputy voter registrar in |
---|
55 | 55 | | Harris County, and in 2008, he served on a Harris County signature |
---|
56 | 56 | | verification committee and Early Voting Ballot Board; and |
---|
57 | 57 | | WHEREAS, With the love and support of his wife, Amber, and his |
---|
58 | 58 | | three children, Joshua, Matthew, and Brianna, Travis Bryan has |
---|
59 | 59 | | devoted himself to serving his fellow Texans and to many worthy |
---|
60 | 60 | | causes in which he believes; now, therefore, be it |
---|
61 | 61 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
62 | 62 | | Legislature hereby commend Travis Allan Bryan for his exemplary |
---|
63 | 63 | | service to his community and to the State of Texas and extend to him |
---|
64 | 64 | | sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; |
