5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A 70th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |

6 | 6 | | and shared experiences, and Henry and Sammie Dishongh of Point |
---|
7 | 7 | | celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on February 17, |
---|
8 | 8 | | 2009; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Their romance began in late 1938, at Citizens State |
---|
10 | 10 | | Bank in Houston, where customer Sammie Sturgis Anderson was smitten |
---|
11 | 11 | | with the handsome young teller, Wilmer Henry Dishongh; a formal |
---|
12 | 12 | | introduction by a mutual friend led to their first date--a movie and |
---|
13 | 13 | | a hamburger at the Princess Drive-in; love soon blossomed and on |
---|
14 | 14 | | February 17, 1939, Mr. Dishongh and Miss Anderson were married in |
---|
15 | 15 | | nearby Rosenberg; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In the early years of their marriage, Mrs. Dishongh |
---|
17 | 17 | | volunteered with her church and the American Red Cross; as their |
---|
18 | 18 | | family grew to eventually include four daughters, she focused on |
---|
19 | 19 | | her work as a mother and homemaker; in 1968, she became the owner |
---|
20 | 20 | | and sole operator of Point Insurance Agency and enjoyed a 40-year |
---|
21 | 21 | | career with that company until her retirement in January 2009; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dishongh joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, and when |
---|
23 | 23 | | he returned home the next year, he moved his family to Lake Jackson, |
---|
24 | 24 | | where he held the position of vice president and later, president, |
---|
25 | 25 | | of Lake Jackson State Bank; following several moves within Texas |
---|
26 | 26 | | and Louisiana, they settled in Point in 1968; there, Mr. Dishongh |
---|
27 | 27 | | became president, CEO, and owner of the First State Bank of Point |
---|
28 | 28 | | and later worked for AAA Wire and as a consultant, until his |
---|
29 | 29 | | retirement in 1982; he also served the citizens of Point as mayor, |
---|
30 | 30 | | taking an active role in many expansion projects within the city, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and in 2008 he was honored as the community's oldest World War II |
---|
32 | 32 | | veteran; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Dishongh have both fully participated |
---|
34 | 34 | | in civic life, volunteering with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Lions |
---|
35 | 35 | | Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star, which Mrs. Dishongh has |
---|
36 | 36 | | served as Worthy Matron; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Today, the couple delight in their treasured family, |
---|
38 | 38 | | which includes their daughters, Patricia Ann, Mary Lynn, Nancy Jo, |
---|
39 | 39 | | and Sandra Kay, as well as eight grandchildren and eight |
---|
40 | 40 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Dishongh have enjoyed seven decades of |
---|
42 | 42 | | abiding love and affection for one another, and they are among an |
---|
43 | 43 | | exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
---|
44 | 44 | | commitment; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Henry and Sammie Dishongh on their |
---|
47 | 47 | | 70th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
---|
48 | 48 | | continued happiness; and, be it further |

49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
